    Purpose of life?

I didn't read through the debate but. If you have a religion and you're strong in that faith then life does have a purpose. It is to serve that "religious" figure that you believe in. If you're life doesn't have purpose then find something to make your life have purpose. Even if we weren't put here for a specific reason we could make our own personal reasons.

There are a few 2 ways to think about it. If you're religious or non-religious. Religiously your purpose in life is to worship God and do as he commands in his religious texts.
Non-religiously is what everyone has brought up before, to be "fit". Fitness is not defined scientifically as being muscular or whatnot, but rather whoever can reproduce the most is the most fit in Darwinian theory.

Reading all these sad comments about "following the big man" or "society" or whatever is really disappointing because I can automatically tell all these people who think so either live somewhere like the U.S or UK or something. This mindset is only found in countries like these. I visit third-world countries over the summer a lot and let me tell you, they have way more freedom there than they do in the "Land of the Free". It's amazing there and you feel like you can do what you want. The U.S feels more like an institutional trap, but that is not the world. If you believe that is the purpose of life, you need to travel more often and leave the U.S and expand your horizons.

    Purpose of life?

The "purpose of life" has no one grand mission statement for all to follow like sheep. The only true purpose of life is whatever you make it. You create your own meaning of your own life. None of us have the same life, why would we all want the same thing?

    Purpose of life?

emerson believed transcendence was the ultimate goal of the human life.
however nietzsche may differ, and believe that human existence comes without meaning or reason, and that any other view is an example of people taking themselves too seriously.

So... what? Do you agree with one or the other? Who? Why? Or do you have your own ideas?

    Purpose of life?

Maybe our purpose in life is to contribute towards the advancement of society, and possible getting to a point where we know how the universe was created?

Ah, good ol' Nihilism. The cornerstone of many philosophical constructs. I don't necessarily disagree with being nihilistic in that it rejects all religious/moral beliefs, but with an inherent belief there is no purpose or meaning to life, the concept becomes much less appealing.
