if you go ingame and try change your name to "Bandos" it says it's available, but then it says it can't be changed to it ;/

previous user had the username bandos but got locked/banned with it though

 

Its the ban thing - Big Bang wasn't allowed when I thought I'd got a winner. Bank says available but isn't allowed either. Banned accounts got released today apparently.

Kinda funny because we were only talking about this yesterday, but a Jmod suggested this new thing on forums called "Head Start".

Gives old accounts and more experienced players a day extra to take names before they're available for other accounts.

 

Head start is the only one that makes sense.

Silent: Hoarders and bots are most likely to benefit
Pre-publish list: Doesnt achieve anything or solve any issue at hand, dumb
Disable checking: Sure, changing name is the same thing as checking availability any way
Head start: Perfect

 

I like the idea of silent release, it's the most appropriate way to "earn" a released name.

If you see a name come out, you grab it as fast as possible. It's like finding buried treasure, and taking it home before someone else does first. Of course botting could be a threat, I just don't see it possible that a bot could focus on such a wide range of names (Millions at once). The head start would be a perfect deterrence to botting in combination with the silent release.
