    Escrapping - My new hobby

Been having a great time the past week both acquiring and breaking down pcs for scrap material. Got into it after watching a video promising big bucks, and figured it was worth a try, and after about an hour of driving I had about 10 complete Pcs , buncha random shit (motherboards , keyboards , lcd screens , graphix cards) --- that from my estimates could be worth over $100

Just wanted to share the community some of my stuff and my finds , and see if anyone else did this kinda thing. anyways -- Heres some (shitty) pics of my stuff ^_^

Got sum sweet amd proccessors , about 1.5lbs of ram - 25+ lbs of motherboards (lrg n small sockets) maybe 10lbs of heatsinks , buncha cracked lcds, few lbs of gold finger cards , 15+ psu , some nice CPUs, and had alot of fun looking into both old and new computers and breaking shit

True. In my neighborhood there are always things on people's driveways (like couches and desks) that say "free" and stuff. Always want to take them but I don't live alone so my parents won't let me >_>

Once, my high school was stupid and literally threw a hundred computers, screens, and sets of peripherals in the garbage. I was dying to get my hands on as much as I could, but by the time school got out, they were all gone.

if you're scrapping the pieces and not selling , all ram is basically the same , with the exception of RAMBUS which is ram with a metal covering that makes it worth a bit less.

Same for the motherboards , they're all good (in the sense they can be used for precious metal recovery) if you're going to sell them they are usually categorized by slot size / number of slots.

But yeah ... not really any of the PC parts you come across can be "bad"

For the metal scrapping, what pieces have the most gold, platinum, etc? Also where do you take them to get scrapped?

You would have to look for local yards if you wanted to sell, every place is different.

As far as metals go the CPU and RAM probably contain the most by wieght , but that doesn't mean they are the most valuble piece of scrap.

Everything has some value and it all adds up, this thread from SMF can give you an idea of the various values.

I found an xbox (old one) and 32" flat screen that works on trash day in a closeby neighborhood. Its amazing what rich people throw away. Got a sweet leather couch too, my friend got a sweet marble topped bar as well. I think they threw it away because it was a BITCH to move lol.

Cool hobby Op, I scrap too. Not just electronics, I find a lot of copper and aluminum at work. Took about 6 months worth of BS i find on jobsites and whatnot to the scrap yard last week and made $478! Felt good, granted I took the time to sort it and clean it fairly well. Decent supplemental income.

I've always been interested in scrapping.

A buddy of mine has been buying Canadian pennies in bulk since they are no longer in use. He buys them for anywhere from 1.1-1.3c each. He melts them down into bars and rounds for a nice profit. The copper in Canadian pennies is worth about 2cents each.

The copper in American pennies is about 2 cents as well but since they are sill used it is illegal to melt them down. My friend and I have started hoarding them though because we think it's definantly going to happen soon. The US government loses a few billion making pennies per year.
