Tagging users

Just an idea: allow tags like you do in IRCs, where it'll send an alert to the user you tag in realtime. The only way to tag is to hit TAB while typing out their names, just writing the username isn't enough, that way it'd prevent accidental tagging. Allow people to disable tags, or to mute tags from specific users to prevent intentional tag spamming. Make it just a little unimposing alert system when you're tagged so it's not annoying.

 

Lets be fair for a moment, the use of tagging will be as follows:
1. Tagging Sythe
2. Tagging mods when they haven't replied within 5 minutes of posting a thread.
3. Tagging one or two members in legitimate use
4. Absolute crazy spam in spam forum.

I don't see it working out.

I personally like the idea but I don't think the staff is ever going to make it happen to much tagging will go on and the moderators will get annoyed by it

 

I am fairly certain this will never work, or happen, but pointing out:

1. Could easily create a function to not get alerts at all or from certain people, or only to get alerts from certain people?

2. Same as (1).

3. Isn't that the point of this?

4. Could easily disable the feature for some sections?

 

Very beneficial in many situations. A disable feature would make sense, but what would be the purpose of using it if you're unaware of it's use with another user? Although I like this idea, it would be complicated to maintain.

Not sure if anyone gives a damn, but user tagging in the marketplace is essentially just an excuse to bump postcount.

Just my thoughts.

Cool idea people are always posting @modname for their disputes.

 

And coding, I'd assume.

 

If I want to inflate postcount, and I see a user after a service I just refer him to someone else.

It's useful. I'm just pointing out that we'll get some post-whoring from it. I don't think the negatives outweigh the positives though.

 

How does being able to tag someone encourage post-whoring? They've got "bumps" for that

 

bumps net you a max of 3 post count day/thread.

not that postcount matters for shit, but you could get a hell of a lot more than that via tagging.
