Mods and ranks need some serious change in security

Had he not been negligent he would have gotten e-mails that someone was breaking into his account.
Had he not been negligent he would have had better security on his skype.

How is it that a hacker can gain access to leanbeans skype yet the actual leanbean cannot?

 

LMFAO. When has my negligence gotten me scammed in the past? I've been scammed 1 time on this site by based. He did $800 in legit trades than ran with $700. How does someone's lack of integrity equal my negligence?

Nobody is winning in this situation except whoever the hacker was. So we cannot just assume things because we are feeling sorry for the one who is out of money. I know what it's like to be scammed and I can't imagine how Iago felt, but it doesn't mean I'll assume things in his favour.

You imply that just because he's a mod he shouldn't get away with it. That same premise can be used on the contrary because the only reason that this has become a thread/discussion is because he's a mod. This happens pretty regularly with normal members where there isn't a PM or it's an impostor and someone is PM trapped; no discussion is made then.

I too would very much like to get to the bottom of it - I don't often wish I was spending my evenings trying to figure situations like this out with no proof on either side. If Lean is responsible then yes, he should be banned and repay the money, but there is no proof of this.

When I was PM trapped I repaid 50% after agreeing with the other party as we both agreed we were equally negligent during the trade. However, PM trapping is a little different to this case.

I understand that it's hard to come to a verdict, but when something registered with your information, with your backing, is hacked and used in a scam, it should fall on that person to prove it was a hack. Leanbean has time and time again been asked to show ANYTHING AT ALL to clear his name at least a little bit, and his only response has been "coincidence" or "it wasn't me."

Let's say your car, or your gun, registered under your name was found at a crime scene with your fingerprints all over it. Do you think the investigators would take "it was stolen" as a valid excuse? No, you would be expected to show that it was not you. You would need an alibi, some photo evidence, ANYTHING to show that it wasn't you. Lean has not taken the initiative, and any attempt to try to get something from him that would settle his case has been in vain. At what point does it end?

 

Leanbean901 has been dealing with this guy in the past. Maybe I should have said friend's friend or somthing in my example but that shit isn't even what's important. Leanbean should still be repaying.

The problem is, you can't protect the legitimate traders without also giving scammers the loophole of the "no pm, no scam" rule.

 

I understand that this is a tough call, but unless Leanbean manages to show even a single way to back up his story, I see no reason it shouldn't be assumed that it was him. Believe me I would feel awful if he proved that he was hacked and I would do everything I could to apologize, but I'm just not seeing any reason to believe him. I feel like if that's not a standard that is upheld, then what's to stop everyone from simply crying "HACKER" every time they want to pull off a scam? I'm not saying lean needs to be executed as an example, I'm saying he needs to prove himself, or deal with the consequences of his negligence. Not keeping a handle on a Skype account used to make trades worth thousands, especially as a moderator on a trust based site such as sythe is a major short coming. He should have signed up with a real e-mail address.

 

maybe so, but lean is still at fault for not practicing safe trading, and using legit emails to keep aware of when stuff happens.

i check mine about every 30 minutes, i get notifications on my phone, if you are on sythe every day, and on skype, wouldnt you know if you got kicked off skype, or made to reenter your password?


it doesnt fit up that the day his limit was lifted ,he just happens to not be around for a set period of time?

i mean if i was doing mp limits on the daily, i'd have it wrote down for my limit is reach, and be ready to re hit that cap asap.

 

I check mine every day and even get notifications on my phone when I receive an email. ESPECIALLY, if your security online means thousands of dollars.

 

I just don't think whether someone checks their emails regularly or not is much basis to say they should repay a scam victim or not.

 

I don't think that's anybody argument - it's just an example of negligence that contributes to a bigger argument - that leanbean (if he wasn't actually the hacker), was ridiculously negligent about his security and in turn, should repay the guy.

Note: This is if he wasn't actually the scammer. I personally think he could have been, but it's hard to prove. That's why I'm hoping he has to pay back at least half of what was scammed.

The "hacker" messaged scam victim an hour before a mass message. This leads me to believe he was targeted and that the mass message was then used as a cover up to being "hacked"

 

Failure to provide proof to rebut the supportive claims against him should hold him responsible. He's the one who got his skype locked. His skype was the key to locking this case away.
