[Discussion] Why are all americans are stupid?

American citizens are naturally stupid.
I get a trillion results if I type "stupid americans" in the google search box and I am convinced that the vast majority of you are stupid. Americans do not take education seriously and according to Wikipedia only 30% of all Americans have a bachelor's degree, whilst 70% of you americans have finished High School only.
How many of you people even know the name of the first president of your country? American schools and families poorly teaches their children proper etiquette, behaviour and moral character, and you lack proper discipline.

This is about what you americans have forced upon humanity, about the offences and the brutality you forced upon the human race. Your actions in guatanamo bay is not even democracy worthy, every human being has the right to go to trial even if that person is Gadafi or Bin laden.
Are you like this because the lack of funds your educational program recieved under the Bush administration?

Your logic is flawed that I'm not even sure where to start. But, I searched google and got 24,600,000 results for "stupid americans" yet "stupid british" got 74,200,000 results. Search results don't show the real picture of what is going on in America. This issue is much more than lazy people refusing to learn. There is a social and economical gap between the social standing of our citizens.

Our first president is George Washington and our second was John Adams. Now that is where things get tricky, America has public schools, private schools and religious schools. I am not sure which you trying to refer to however as a member of both a private and religious school I would argue that your mindset is flawed. Family can be good/or bad. That happens everywhere and isn't just in the USA.

Now here we go, you just completely topic changed. America tends to react to situation rather than starting them. I'm not arguing that it's right but we haven't forced anything that other countries weren't already doing.

If you think Bush is responsible for this you're partly right however it has nothing to do with education. The people who make such decision went to private school and come from a background of wealth. The education programs under George Bush were for inner city schools and was about funding schools that couldn't afford it. We might not be first in education but we have some of the top education institution in the world. Arabic leaders send their family to the USA for school.

Also no I haven't read that book, but what exactly is your argument? Is it the dismal public school system compared to a socialist setup in other countries? Or if Bush is trying to keep everyone else stupid by not funding education? Just curious because this seems very troll like but you aren't a newb so I'm going to give you the benfit of the doubt.

Your thread title isn't even grammatically correct, are you sure you're not "American" by your standards?

Every nation has its share of ignorant people and bigots --- to marginalize them into just one country is stupid + wrong and makes you look bad.

Also, as Ghast said, education doesn't define intelligence --- I've met some of the smartest people that dropped out of High School...conversely, I've met some of the dumbest that have gone through College.

I just want to address this. As a whole, we may not be at the top of the education rankings worldwide in terms of testscores or whatever. But if you look at Massachusetts, California, Washington DC, etc -- liberal/richer states, our test scores are competing for #1 worldwide, and what you'll find there are people just as educated/even more educated than the rest of the world. These general statistics only come when you take states like Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana into account -- states that are generally poorer, more conservative, and value gun rights over education.

 

I don't really see a correlation between gun rights and education... This is basically a blanket statement that implies all liberals are smart and rich and all conservatives are poor and uneducated (which doesn't make a whole lot of sense because usually a liberal platform preaches about conservatives who are rich white traditionalists who don't want to share any of their money). I've also met plenty of gun enthusiasts who are highly intelligent, they're not just anarchist rejects of society or rednecks. There are also plenty of smart people from Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana. This is a blanket statement and really just as, if not more, offensive than the generalizations the OP is spewing out of random orifices.

No, the gun thing wasn't meant to imply a causation. It was a joke. The "valuing _ over education" was the main point of that phrase.

Anyways -- the dichotomy wasn't so much "conservative vs liberal" as much as "redneck vs liberal". I'm arguing that wealthier states have better test scores, which is likely because wealthier people value education more, probably because they were educated themselves.

I'm not stating that all liberals are wealthy and all conservatives are poor - far from that. I'm arguing that liberals in general value education more than poor conservatives, so it is unfair to group states like Massachusetts in with states like Louisiana and average their test scores and say "LOOK! ALL AMERICANS ARE STUPID BECAUSE!" when Massachusetts is in fact getting test scores at the same level as Japan or China.

As for liberals preaching about conservatives who are rich bla bla -- where do these rich conservatives live? Right. New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Florida, etc. States that generally have decent education systems.

Of course. I'm not saying that every person from Alabama, Georgia, or Louisiana is stupid. I'm saying that on average, they have less education/their test scores are lower. Which is something you can't really argue with as it is a statistic. Most gun enthusiasts/rednecks are from the South, so you can also say that most gun enthusiasts are from these poorer/less educated states. Again, I'm not saying ALL.

I'm not pulling data out of my ass, and if reality is offensive, then that isn't my problem.

 

Actually, one could say you can argue with the statistic, because many don't equate education with intelligence...so in that sense you could say it's not all it seems from the outside.

Does it make a difference? Yes, I believe so, because they are afforded more opportunities than the poverty stricken people.

But I didn't realize your sarcasm, it's hard to detect bigger sarcasm than OP's post. You become jaded to it once you read that garbage.

Also, I don't really think test scores are the end all be all - that's a little scam of society in my opinion. I ranked incredibly high in all my standardized testing, yet I have met people far more introspective than myself that barely graduated High School.

I think clumping people together into groups is the real mistake and tragedy of America. So much untapped potential lost.

 

I understand where you're coming from, but as both Ghast and I Bleed Duke Blue have pointed out, education does not solely define ones intelligence.

While the "everybody is a genius" bit may be overly optimistic, I think the rest of the quote summarizes my opinion on this pretty nicely. Intelligence comes in many forms, and standardized test scores hold far too much weight in US educational institutions. People like yourself, who see those test scores as the primary definition of intelligence, definitely arent helping the situation.

 

Don't you also find it disturbing that the economy is set up in a way where it doesn't even really reward the people that do prove their aptitude in these tests?

Professors make chump change and Mathematics, while a respected field, does not yield all that much income.

So we use these tests to group people into categories, and then nobody really wins, because the foundations we try to run America on are inherently flawed.

If we could answer the questions really plaguing America, we'd be mighty wealthy and influential I imagine .

In those regards, "already over" actually has several good points. But it's hardly just America plagued by the problem.

Right now, higher level education just acts as a way to make people indebted to the Government, and thus forced to become their slave of sorts.

 

I think America is so vast there is bound to be some people that are goofy within it. I don't think all Americans are stupid.
