Rare name release?

I don't hope to compete with the bots, but I am curious to see what new names come into the market here on sythe. Just getting into rare names myself since Jagex has recently made them so easy to transfer, I plan on buying 3-4.

 

Does anyone know if banned accounts (which have logged in to the website within the last 2 years, but not the game) are going to have their names released? Hoping to get the name that I've owned for a few years.

If that doesn't happen though, i've made myself a tool which should help me snag a few good names. Constantly checks to see if a name is available, and if it is, it will try to take it. Loops sometimes take like 6 seconds though which i'm concerned about, as i've heard some bots take names within like a second. Or is that just for autoclickers?

 

Haha yeah there's no hard feelings over here anyways, I'm immune to getting upset over these losses now.

I think people are going to have to be pretty quick if they want any of the names when they free up, I think I will try and hopefully get a three letter name or something

 

Even if i don't get a few names i want, you might be able to pick some up cheap on the market when they all flood in

 

I'm hoping I can catch something nice. Anyone know the exact date they're gonna start popping up?

In anyone's opinion do you think this sort of 'devalues' rare names that will be released?... Technically anyone can just sit there and snipe a rare name now since they're doing this, and with the added risk of Jagex monitoring them. I'd never buy a name, but to me this just seems like it'd devalue a ton of names.

 

IMHO, it creates a new market for the more desirable displaynames -- Not necessarily talking what they are worth.. but the renewed ~2009 feeling of Woah! He/she grabbed a neat name!. Rather than what it is today of Oh look, another RWT'er. I wonder what FC they circlejerk in of DUDE LOOK AT THE NAME I BOUGHT STROKE MY PEEN WITH ME AND COMPARE PLS!!

I am excited to see players claim a new identity for themselves that is more original that what they were once known as, above all-else.

 

I suppose so in a way, but more so I think it devalues them because of the fact that everyone in a sense is having a "second chance" at a highly desired name. Which doesn't exactly make something as "rare" to me.

 

Fair point . But try and look at this this way instead:

200M+ Accounts, ~50M DisplayNames being released. I suspect only a very small percentage of those names will be the types of names the community lusts after today. The rest will be SugarRat72 or Pk Str Z0rz or classical Memecrap or even iMerchzz. Anything worth of value Jagex will expectantly (Despite their public statements) stay banned or reserved for their alts or players who enjoy the explicit actions of kissing a butt. As I stated early in Roary's thread, the chances of this system being anything how they portray it to be are very slim. The fact they keep it pushed back until the end of the month also makes my patience and anxiety for it both grow thin to be proven wrong, though.

But if this question of yours was raised because you are looking to purchase a rare name, then yes.. chances are the market for them will be temporarily at a halt. But eventually it should pick up when more actually rare names are seen on the market. I guess it all depends on how strict they really are this time around on name sellers/buyers.

 

I hope to get a nice username, not to resell though.
