Whats the value of this desktop?

    Hey,

I just got a used gaming desktop that was custom built and the specs below are.. I'm not going to resell the desktop but keep it or reuse the parts for my other desktop. I paid only $50.

Did I get a good deal on this desktop? I don't really play games, only watch netflix ONLY. The the ram, hard drive got to be worth money even if its under 50 bucks and the case can be resold or reused again for my own gaming rig if I want to build.

    AMD Athlon II X2 255 Regor Dual-Core 3.1GHz Socket AM3 65W Desktop Processor ADX255OCGQBOX

    Asus M4A87TD/USB3 ATX AM3 Motherboard

    4GB of RAM (Gskill RAM)

    Nvidia geforce gts 450

    SeaGate 250gb 7200rpm

    450W power supply I think

You could salvage those parts for about $200 (plus case) based on some current Newegg prices for those parts. Take a little bit off because I assume they're heavily used, but yeah.

I'd take the RAM from you if you're looking to sell it for a good price.

I'll have to check out what kind of RAM in it. I know its a g.skill. I'll find out the technical specs later when I receive my hdmi to dvi cable.

I noticed that inside the case, very bad cable management. There's a couple of connections left unplugged and curious if its "normal"? I went to the person's house and booted the desktop and it ran perfectly normal.

I'm new to PC building and get most of my info from Darkest Dream. But yes, that should be completely normal. I just built my first PC and there's a ton of cables unplugged (the power supply comes with a lot of cables so you can plug everything into it - plus other things).

That computer looks old..... But regardless... Just unused shit. Power supplies gives you a ton of wires and you won't need them all. I have a modular and the wires that I do plug in have more plugs than I need (for fans or hard drives or whatever else).

Very common for plenty of wires to be left unplugged, gives room to upgrade and add things in as you see fit, however as SuF said.. My lord that computers insides look ancient.

Looks like a crazy amount of dust in there too. I wonder how old this build is.

Regardless, you'll still probably profit ~$150 if you find any buyers for the components.

For 50 USD, you got a decent deal. Those parts are pretty outdated, but the computer should be good enough for games like league of legends, minecraft and maybe some other not very intense games. The motherboard is decent with it supporting usb 3.0, but drop a phenom II in and add graphics card like the R7 260x and perhaps bump the memory up to 8gb (not required) and you now have a decent mid-range computer.

You made a good purchase. The disconnected cables are normal, and the first thing I would do is buy a can of compressed air and blow all that dust out.
