help identifying DVI cable on monitor/desktop

    Hi,

I just bought a used desktop and it doesn't have a VGA port that we normally use. Our monitor has no HDMI but has a DVI port. The desktop has HDMI and DVI port but no VGA. I need help identifying which DVI for the Desktop and Monitor because they are both different. I'm thinking about buying a HDMI to DVI instead of DVI to DVI, which

If anyone can take a look at these two links from Amazon and see if its a compatible fit from Desktop HDMI to Monitor DVI? I would be hooking the desktop hdmi to monitor DVI.

I need Dual Link not Single link

If you look at it they are kind of the same part. The second one has the first one inside of it where you can see the 3x8 is the same and the sideways slit is too.
So if you get a cord that matches the monitor which i think is a standard dvi then it'll match the computer too.

Like turn the slot in the top picture 90 degrees to the right and it would line up the same as the slot in the bottom picture

All of the dvi heads that you linked are standard and would fit the top picture so they would also fit the bottom picture. See how it just has the 3x8 head with the sideways slit next to it

There are 2 types of DVI connectors.
You have DVI-I (digital + analog signal) and DVI-D (digital signal only)
The extra 4 connectors on the end bit are the connectors for the analog signal, which are not always needed.

If you have an older monitor, or an older screen that only supports analog input, those 4 connectors will be used. If not, no problem.

As for the 3 links you provided, all 3 of them should work without any problems.

Every single one of your links will work fine, the 3x8 rectangular input pattern is what matters. Your monitor will accept both DVI-I and -D, your computer output is DVI-D.

my monitor only accepts DVI-D cable not DVI-I. The port is a DVI-D.
