Changes to how scammers are treated

Person A is scammed by person B and hires someone to counter-scam
The person hired takes more than 1B

The hired person would be liable for over-scamming and be banned if they keep the surplus, if the surplus is given to person A then Person A is responsible and banned if they do not return it.

Changes to how scammers are treated

Hey Roary, should i PM or talk to you on Skype to discuss this further?

I didn't post anything in the report a scammer section yet, but i got scammed 1B a couple months ago.. it was actually 2 people who scammed me, 2 people on skype though, only one had a Sythe profile.. so it could have been one person chatting on 2 accounts on skype

I messaged zuzel111 and superman and sent them the imgur links proving i was scammed and they already banned the person who did it

But I am just curious what do you mean when you say me or someone i know?

Could someone i know be anyone trusted willing to help me, or only people that i have already talked to/known on sythe before the scam happened?

And the person who scammed me actually impersonated you and Dave..

One of the guys skype name was 'sythedavelive'.. and i even read that skype name before i was scammed.. for some reason i thought daves new skype was sythedavelive or something.. plus i had bought gold from dave a lot in the past and the way sythedavelive talked sounded like dave as well.. anyway his rsn was 'Guild' and after he had my 1B i was looking around at the real Dave's Sythe threads and on there it said his only skype is sythedave.. at that point i realized i got scammed

Also, the person impersonating Dave couldn't send me a PM but the person he was working with (Skype name tradersythe sythe name Trader), pretended to get messages from Dave and even forwarded me a message from Dave on Sythe pretending to be you on Daves account.. The person impersonating Dave told me that the message wasn't sending to me for some reason but the other person (Trader) still got it.. anyway they fooled me with that.. and i didn't realize till later but when you forward a message you can edit the contents of the message.. so if someone had a message from Dave on Sythe saying 'Hi', they could edit it while forwarding and make it say anything, like 'talking to you on skype' or whatever else..

Changes to how scammers are treated

I see the reasoning behind this and I think it opens up too many "possibilities"

"if you can prove without a doubt"
this opens up the opportunity for people to claim they are scammed and then they have moderators and other staff members committing crimes.

If you are scammed it really, truly is your fault. I know I've went first a couple times and I was like eh, probably not the best idea BUT I knew if I were to be scammed, it was a loss I could take. Personally, I would never execute a transaction I could not afford falling through. If it is something that would really, truly dampen your life for days or weeks after the failed transaction you should certainly go through A LOT more precautions than, for example, accepting a (I presume copy and pasted?) PM from Dave. You should be in direct communications with Dave. Dave should be copy and pasting the Skype chat log to prove it's him.

P.S. -- no offense to the user that was scammed in this way. I'm just saying, rather than having our staff members engage in such activity you should just step up the precautions that you take. Chalk the 1B up to a lesson learned and move on.

Also, although laws vary by state/country/continent, releasing a user's doxx is a very tricky matter for Sythe staff. I don't think you'll ever see a full user's doxx posted and not removed. Haven't you seen all the craziness that happens with leaked information and pictures around here? The bans are the least Sythe can do.

obviously there are flaws in this idea but it would be totally fair if we have 100% proof and a high %chance of it working against the user being counter scammed. I was scammed for a large amount by an impersonator, he got banned last year but he's still actively scamming, I see many reports with the same skype display name/picture he uses. I don't even know where to start if I was to try this so I won't bother but if someone can easily counter-scam someone back, why not? the mods are just helping return lost property, could be for a fee or just out of goodwill.

If a scammer used the same account to sell the gold as they did to scam the gold, then this would work. Sounds like you want a revenge service :p

I don't think there any issues as long as you can prove without a doubt that you were scammed and that the person you are taking your money back from was the scammer.

I completely understand that it was my fault I was scammed. Its still a nice rule to have to allow people to counter scam. Getting a scammer banned requires evidence and that same evidence that you used to ban the scammer could also be used as evidence if you wanted to counter scam the same person.

I just wanted to add a note here that moderators are not obligated to counterscam or scam or deal with anything of that nature. That's I why I said that I wouldn't be able to help you past banning him.
