Laptop constantly freezing after clean Windows 7 install

Hi

I have a laptop that previously was pre-installed with Windows 8, 8.1. I didn't like the OS so I downgraded to Windows 7 using a clean, untouched, MDN/Retail iso on the internet.

I download all the windows 7 drivers on the support website and then every time I started up the computer and then after 5-10 minutes of use with very minimal programs opened, the laptop freezes. Sometimes, I get lucky and get to use the computer for about 30-45 minutes and then it freezes again. I don't know when's the next time the computer is going to freeze, but its gonna happen.

It seems to NEVER have this problem when I install Windows 7 which takes at least an hour, running bios scan in boot, and in safe mode.

 

You should have this moved to technology.

Laptop model? Some laptop's may not be compatible with older operating systems. Although I would have thought any laptop today would still be made to work with Windows 7.

 

If my laptop model may not be compatiable with older operating system, in that case the Windows 7, there wouldn't be a drivers available on the support manufactuer's site. :\

It really does seem like a driver issue. Have you looked at the windows event logs?

 

Yeah but I just wiped my entire HD and re installing the OS again. Doing windows update first, then installing the drivers after.

 

Drivers should come first.

This. The driver support is likely just worse on 7. Just stay with 8 and install the various programs that boot to desktop and bring back the normal start menu. 8 is faster anyways.

 

I suppose if I switched to Windows 8, it might not have this problem. I would use windows 8, 8.1 but I don't like it one bit.

Yes you're right. I downloaded the LAN driver to "get" internet. Started downloading Windows 7 update and then the laptop froze.

I did a re install before with drivers "came" first. I just installed the drivers that were missing. Then I started Windows update (Downloaded first) and it froze.

I re installed windows 3-4 times already and the laptop still freezes out of nowhere.

This is the first and ever time I experienced this kind of problem which just "randomly" freezes out of no where. Sometimes, the laptop freezes on start up, just seconds after it finishes starting up.

 

What's wrong with 8.1? People have made programs to make it look essentially just like 7.

 

I re burned the windows 7 disc at 1x speed and so far, the computer hasn't froze yet while updating.

I'm downloading and installing windows update first then download the missing drivers found at support page.

 

Where are you downloading the drivers from?

Any issues yet? Could have been a faulty burn. In the future, I suggest using a USB stick to install windows, avoids this conflict.

With windows 8, doesn't it use more resources than 7?

I checked the Admin event log and there were a couple of warnings and critical errors, should I be worried about that at all? On my other laptop (I'm using right now, I have over 1,200 logged events yet nothing has happened to my computer.. LOL). Btw, I just finished windows update, about to stress the computer's hard drive, ram, and the intel hd4000 graphics using...

Furmark, memtest86x or soemthing like that, and prime95.

I think it could have been a faulty burn, but if it was then why was I still able to install Win 7? I think I burned it at AWS, that could have been why but I did this before on my dell laptop I'm using right now and it had no problems running windows.

The SSD drive I'm using is a 256 gb that I got from amazon for $49.99.

 

I believe 8 uses less than 7.

 

In regards to the faulty burn, it could have simply been a small handful of files, or even a single file that isn't regularly accessed by the system, so unless the system is trying to access/utilize that file, it's going to run fine. Then, when the system attempts to access it, it causes the hangs you were explaining due to the fact the file(s) was/were corrupt
