The design document pages are here: 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Note that because the documents require downloading the Runescape News Page about them are linked instead of the actual document.

Are you looking forward to its release? If so, out of the 4 design documents released so far what bit of content is the most appealing to you? If not, why aren't you looking forward to it?

For me, I'm looking forward to it. It looks promising and, for once, Jagex actually seem to be delivering with the hype and not making a mess of it. Granted, I haven't seen many BTS videos about it but I'm confident that it won't suck (there's a first time for everything :p).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to all the different ways of skilling that they've shown but the content that most appeals to me is the Slayer Challenge (found in document number 2) from the new high-level Slay Master. The challenge is called the "Hall of Fame" challenge.

They're definitely making up for the amount of time people have waited for it. The high level content is what a huge chunk of those players have been looking for. The max guild sounds interesting as well. Shame I'll never get to visit it lol

Oddly the thing I found most interesting was the crystal chakrams. I played a game called Kingdoms of Amalur where chakrams are some of the better weapons and the way you use them is by throwing them out in-front of you and they kinda frisbee back. I doubt it'll be the same in RS, but I dunno - would be interesting to introduce a new weapon type with a completely different combat animation.

Is Elf City available to everyone upon release?

Or do we need to do quests to be able to have access?

If it's the latter, I better get started.

You have to do a quest to unlock it. It will continue on from Within the Light and will be the final quest for the series.

Pretty sure they said it'd be available for everyone but in order to unlock certain parts of the city you have to do the quest called Plague's End.

Where do you think this will be located? I think personally it will be near the dense forest where you do roving elves. :D

According to the Wikia page you need Plague's End to enter. I personally think that it would be the better option seeing as there will be so much high-level content.

It will be in the north of the forest.

It's in the first design document. It says that there will be 2 bank booths and grand exchange booths in the tower of voices. Basically the Elf City will be the new high-level hub.

I wonder how many maxed/comp players, who ran out of things to do and quit, will be drawn back after this update. It feels like they're definitely trying to make it uber attractive, in hopes of doing just that. So it'd be curious to know what their expectations are.

Elf City

My notes/thoughts on he 5 documents. There are a lot more things going on but I'm just focusing on what caught my interest.

High level hub
The high level hub is going to kill G.E crowd immensely. It doesn't say much about entry requirement so I'm assuming just the quest will suffice. The hub will have many NPC's which make it seem as though one won't need to ever leave, really. 2 bankers, a GE clerk, a challenge turn-in and portals to Sinkholes and Dungeoneering are included.

Elven shattered heart statue
Much like the one in Varrock, golden(?) rocks are gained from skills focused on in Elf City. You'll have to collect 32 as normal and EXP is higher of that of Dhamaroc. I like this because it now offers skills the other one doesn't. The skills are:
 Melee (any melee skill - player has choice of which skill to gain XP in)
 Magic
 Ranged
 Slayer
 Mining
 Smithing
 Farming
 Woodcutting
 Construction
 Crafting
 Divination
 Summoning
 Agility
 Prayer
 Herblore
 Dungeoneering

32 completions of the statue becomes a requirement for trimmed comp 32 weeks after release, giving the grace period you'd expect to get it done and not lose your cape.

Elven clans
These clans are pay to join and I'm assuming each have a skill they're based on as the capes they have give some sort of bonus.

Loving the design of these. Bagging myself a slayer one methinks.

Titles
Rewarded for hidden tasks within Elf City. I'm taking a punt at these being based on the Welsh language, like "Seren" is a Welsh word meaning star.

Trahaearn (Welsh name meaning "much like iron"), Iorwerth (Welsh name meaning Lord & Handsome), Cadarn (Welsh for strong/powerful), Crwys (Welsh poet), Amlodd, Ithell, Hefin (Welsh for summer), Meilyr (Welsh meaning is Chief Ruler), Lorehound, The Stratuesque, Naragi (Welsh name), The Famous.

Slayer Master Morvran

Morvran will operate like Kuradal. He has a dungeon with monsters Kuradal also assigns minus most cancelled tasks and the assignments will be 20% larger.

• Aberrant spectres
• Abyssal demons
• Airut
• Aquanites
• Aviansies
• Black demons
• Black dragons
• Bloodveld
• Blue dragons
• Cres's automatons
• Dark beasts
• Desert strykewyrms
• Elf City elves
• Fire giants
• Ganodermic creatures
• Gargoyles
• Greater demons
• Grotworms
• Hellhounds
• Ice strykewyrms
• Iron dragons
• Jungle strykewyrms
• Kalphites
• Mithril dragons
• Muspah
• Mutated jadinkos
• Nihil
• Order of Ascension members
• Steel dragons
• Waterfiends

Solo tasks offer a new system. Dark crystals will appear during these tasks in the inventory. Each decreasing the player's ability. You can choose to keep these and keep fighting or discard them. Keeping them will grant a much larger sum of exp.

Player melee damage reduced by 20%
Player mage damage reduced by 20%
Player ranged damage is reduced by 20%
Magic damage on the player is increased by 20%
Ranged damage on the player is increased by 20%
Melee damage on the player is increased by 20%
Your boot slot is considered empty
Your cape slot is considered empty
Your helmet slot is considered empty

Players can purchase with slayer points, an ability to make a task a preferred task. Opposite to blocking one, it will have an increased chance of being assigned.

Slayer Dungeon D&D
The D&D will be in the dungeon and last 15 minutes per week. It's a slayer-based endurance test. Player will face five fast creatures, five medium creatures, and then five slow creatures. More assignments completed means more exp. There will be a bank to change loadouts.

Max Guild
Any player with a 99 or quest cape can enter the garden of the max guild but not do anything special. You need a max cape to get inside the guild which contains a throne that 1 person per world can sit in. There is a portal going to several locations. Don't know much more personally.

Seren stones
Requiring 89 mining, each rock takes 70 strikes to mine fully and will be the highest exp-yielding rock in game. I'm stoked for this, hopefully the exp is decent because mining is so slow.

Resource dungeons
The level 95 dungeon resource room will contain:
Pawya and Grenwall hunter locations
2 x Runite rocks
Bank deposit box
An impling spawn
A bloodwood tree

The 115 resource room will contain:
Additional crystal-flecked sandstone rocks
Frost dragons
Bank deposit box
Crystal motherlode rock - Can be mined once per player, per day, to gain at least one of the following:
A golden shattered heart rock that the player has not gained (common)
A shattered heart rock that the player has not gained (common)
Key token (common)
Crystal geode (common)
A crystal half key (uncommon)
Court case scrolls (uncommon)
Tokens towards chompy kills, castle wars tickets, etc (uncommon)
A crystal key (rare)
A crystal triskelion piece (rare)
Ancient Effigies (rare)
Clue scrolls (uncommon - rare)
Champion Scrolls (rare)
A complete crystal triskelion (very rare)
A crystal tree seed (very rare)
Other rare items, weapons and armour (very rare)

Combination pots
Nothing bad to say here:

Thanks for the summary Roary. I read through the documents but your post puts it in a greater perspective. The new slayer master seems cool now that I know he'll have his own dungeon. I wonder if ferocious rings will work in there or if he'll have his own.
