Need a PC for Minecraft - Help?

    Hello to everyone,

I came across this subsection on Sythe and figured it would be a great place to pose my question to hopefully be answered.

I am an avid minecraft player, playing all the time, as I am a staff member on a mid to large sized server. I log right many hours online, the only problem is that I use my Macbook Pro 15" laptop to play.

Granted, my Mac is a great laptop. I have no problems whatsoever playing minecraft, running teamspeak, and using other programs at the same time. I feel like I should buy a gaming PC to conserve my Mac, and to better enjoy minecraft.

I am in need of some recommendations for a good gaming PC? Specifically a good gaming PC that is cheap and but still good, and able to run minecraft without any problems. I'm looking for one that is cheap, but still able to get the job done well and allow me to play MC without worry.

So far, I have looked at https://www.digitalstormonline.com/configurator.asp?id=927489

I define cheap as below $900 by the way. Thanks to anyone that can help!

Build a PC, you'll save a few hundred bucks and get to pick the parts yourself. Its as simple as youtubing a video and getting some help putting together a parts list.

If you can't be bothered digitalstorm is a good company to buy from, their prices aren't terrible v.s. their competitors.

As far as minecraft goes, any modern PC will handle it fine.

I really wish I was tech-savy enough to build my own, but for now, I am relying on a pre-built computer. I may watch some videos and see if I can get any help from my friends at school. Thanks for the feedback!

The DigitalStorm link I posted has that I believe?

It has the choice between and i3 and an i5, if I read it correctly.

With zero knowledge ahead of time, I just built a great PC for an even better price. It just takes a little research with the knowledge of what you want from it, and Minecraft has pretty simple requirements of a computer.

Like SuF said, I'd tell you to stick with an i5 processor over an i3; they're simply faster. And if you decide you want to do some research and upgrade parts of your computer in the future, your i5 should be plenty of CPU for whatever you're looking to add.

Desktops will be cheaper than laptops for the amount of power you will get with them. I can run Minecraft and other applications simultaneously fine with 6 GB of RAM on an i7, though my fan does get noisy. If you are planning on running modded minecraft, you are going to want to invest a bit more.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I do indeed play modded types of minecraft rather than normal minecraft. I think I going to go with the digital storm comptuer linked above, as it allows for space/upgrades in the future that I may look into via youtube tutorials and knowledge/advice on here. Any other feedback is highly appreciated!

OP, don't listen to this guy, take advice from someone who actually knows what they're talking about.

If you could get yourself an i3-4130 for $110, there's no point in spending $229 on a fancy i5-4670k. As you can see in the benchmark below, the i5 beats the i3 by 0.6fps, and costs $109 more. Is it worth spending $100+ extra to get not even ONE extra frame per second? The simple answer, no. Unless you have a specific reason to get an i5, do not waste the extra money.

My advice to you OP, since you are an avid gamer who plays games like Minecraft, get yourself an i3-4130 ($110), a GTX 750 TI ($150), 8GB of RAM ($75), a cheap motherboard ($50), a cheap power supply with at least 400W/35 amps on the +12V rail ($40), a 1TB HDD ($60) and a cheap case ($40). All together, this will cost you a little over $500, and will run most modern games on the highest settings at 1080p at at least 30 frames per second. I'll include some benchmarks below for you. As you can see, the 750 TI gets about 80fps on Skyrim with medium/high settings.

OP, don't listen to this asshole. CPU's are rarely the bottleneck in games that make use of the GPU. Other games like Civ 5 or Supreme Commander make extensive use of the CPU and hardly at all the GPU. Minecraft uses a shit ton of CPU. It displays blocks. It hardly needs a GPU at all. Don't listen to this guy who doesn't understand anything other than what bloggers tell him.
