Oh you're a doctor now? You know what I eat?? Shut the fuck up and quit making assumptions and speaking as though you KNOW a damn thing about me, the issue at hand or nutrition. "Thats why you feel the same" SMH.

If its seasonal the way you are talking it may just be a mental fatigue issue, Im starting to believe mine is as well since its 100x worse when im alone and whatnot. I do carry a lot of stress with me, but JFC thats a whole other beast.

If mental fatigue is the issue I wonder what sort of things we could do about it..

Ugh I don't know Nod, I really dont. I think you're right. Mental fatigue definitely sounds like what it is. Sometimes it's also really hard for me to find motivation in the morning. Like everything is just mechanical and whatnot.

But still, I wouldn't say I'm unhappy. Just fatigued, A LOT.

Im in same boat, not "depressed" but not HAPPY . Just kinda going through the motions, you mentioning a lack of motivation in the morning definitely hints at the mental fatigue. I feel the same, how old are you and what sort of work (if any) do you do if you dont mind me asking?

    Feeling tired all the time?

I'm 21, just finishing up my last year of college. At school, I work the night shift from 11:45 PM - 7 AM ( I know, whacky hours, which contributes to a whacky sleep schedule).

During the summers, I work at my friend's dads kennel for dogs, cats, and sometimes even rabbits and guinea pigs. My hours are 7 AM - 12 PM, then a break, and then 2-6 PM. Some days I don't work both shifts. But it is pretty labor intensive and tiring work (lots of cleaning + walking around, I'm never not on my feet).

It seems to be this summer job that zaps the energy out of me. It's hard to find motivation in the morning to go to it.

I study Chemical Engineering, and have had internships that sort of give me a glimpse into what my work life will be. This is also very tedious and mind numbing work, but in a different way. Conversely to the way that my kennel shifts are very physically rigorous, engineering puts a lot of taxing on the mind and solving problems or planning things.

However, the mental fatigue seems to be most present in the summer when I'm working this kennel job. So exercise is not a problem..I am literally never sitting down when I work this job. You're always moving.

However, I still don't get it. The mental fatigue definitely seems to be creeping in even when I'm just working your normal desk job (namely the engineering stuff, my job at school that is 11:45-7 AM is just to act as a receptionist and do perimeter checks outside of the dorms for security..like I said the hours are whacky but I actually don't get too fatigued from this, even with the added burden of classes and schoolwork).

Overall activity of the body defines it's current state. If you do nothing, so will your body. Be active, simple as that.

    "physically rigorous"

You're exerting too much pressure. Just like after working out, your body starts to break down to start it's healing process. If you do this consistently, your body will start to maintain this order.

Have you ever thought about getting massages?

That's actually a really good way of looking at it. Maybe because I only do this over the summer, I never truly adjust. Hm....that is interesting. And no, I don't get massages. I usually go swimming after work to relieve the tension.

That tends to help. But then post dinner I don't feel like doing anything. Thx for advice.

Im 24 and work 48-56 hours every week. Recently been promoted to lead man so even more fucking stress. I work im commercial carpentry and its really stressful when the burden of responsibility falls on you. But in all honesty this problem was around quite a while before any of this added stress, the fatigue affects my mood as well. So its really detrimental in an array of ways..

Ouch. Super ouch. You really work your ass off then. So it sounds like not only do you have a degree of physical labor, you also have to manage said labor? That is ridiculously stressful. That's basically combining my engineering stuff with my kennel job...except the pressure is even more on the line for you because your word is weighted so heavily in your profession.

This is exactly why I'd like to pinpoint potential fixes to my problem now, because the workload is only going to increase when I graduate, and it'll only get a lot more difficult as someday I could be like you and my word could be the only thing standing between doing something the correct way or the wrong way.

I definitely empathize with your situation. If I do find any tricks or tips that help me, I'll be sure to PM you.

Kudos to you, though, that work ethic is highly impressive and even rare in the world today.

You clearly work harder than me, so I'm going to take that into consideration when I'm thinking "oh this has been a hard day" or "i'm tired". There's always going to be someone out there working harder than me, and I have to appreciate that.

    Feeling tired all the time?

I'm not sure what you mean. You say that you 'feel tired all the time', yet it kicks in at '5-6pm'. What do you mean? Do you mean that you always feel tired from the moment you wake up, but you feel extremely tired from 5-6? Or do you mean you're fine until 5-6pm?

Anyway, being tired in the middle of the day is fine, and completely normal. It's typically called an 'afternoon' slump and is the byproduct of a normal circadian rhythm. I personally find that on the days I don't go to the gym, I'll feel more tired in the afternoon than on the days I do go to the gym (assuming I gym in the morning). Perhaps exercise may help you feel less tired, however, you will still probably feel tired. Otherwise, I simply take a nap in the afternoon when I feel tired, and when I awake I feel refreshed for the rest of the day. If you feel that after a nap, you won't beable to sleep later at night, all you have to do is turn the lights off and go to bed. Your body may need time to adjust to your sleep schedule. It needs consistency.

So pretty much, you can't stop the afternoon slump, it's a normal phenomenon. You could try exercise in the morning, you could try coffee (though I advise not to), you could try a nap, you could simply tough it out.

After I wake up I'm okay, but yeah, usually around 5-6 PM or post dinner it hits and lingers for usually a couple of hours. Just feeling completely lethargic. I just used always and "all the time" because it usually comes without fail, every single day.

Yea, if that's the case then its just normal afternoon slump. Google it and have a look around, since everyone's different in terms of their dietary habits, exercise, sleeping tendencies, genetics etc. You might find ways that help you reduce the degree of tiredness, or length of being tired. Ultimately however, the fact that you are tired is nothing out of the ordinary, it's perfectly normal unless you are so tired to the point of being a hypersomniac.

Thanks a lot malakadang :). This helps calm my nerves on the matter quite a bit. I guess I'll just power through it. Any advice on how long a nap should be if I do take one in the afternoon?

20 minutes or 1 and half hours. Just try not to oversleep the naps.

Thanks but this isnt a pissing contest, I dont HAVE to work those hours you know so its not too big a deal. Besides some people are just cut out differently, 10 hours of mostly manual labor is a LOT more attractive to me than say 6-8 hours of desk work...

I also do not subscribe to the "afternoon slump" theory atleast not in my own case. Ive tried taking little naps, they fuck up my sleep schedule and just piss me off. Then a tiredness occurs pretty much anytime im not at work or physically up and about. I think mine my also be rooted in lack of motivation. Almost like its a chore to stay awake when I dont have much to do..

    PS IBDB , you arent going into structual engineering are you?;

    Feeling tired all the time?

Its a known fact that a lot of people don't get the required vitamins. Even with a "what you may think" healthy diet.

    So yeah...

So now its "a lot of people"? If you knew me this overgeneralization may hold water but you do not and are talking out of your ass making assumptions and stating them as fact. When you know all of jackshit about someone you should not make assumptions.

    Feeling tired all the time?

I said this in the first statement :

Yea you eat three meals... But are them three meals getting all your vitamins, fats & everything else your body needs..

I doubt it, that is why you feel the same as OP

It was a question.. ARE THEM THREE MEALS... So hardly stating anything?... And what I said is true, I highly doubt you eat enough to get the required vitamins. You have to eat shit loads of certain things to get the correct dosage of vitamins.. Even I don't get the correct amount and I'm on a specialist diet :/...

So its not that I don't know jack shit, cus I clearly do. Its the fact your arrogant and clearly that time of month.

I could very well end up going into structural engineering. We'll see how the job market is looking tbh.

I really hope you find a fix to your problem though!

I seem to be built more for a desk job but I don't mind physical labor either. I'm just trying to see if I can find what the trigger to my problem is. I concur with the lack of motivation though. It's hard for me to stay motivated sometimes as well.
