    Hey guys,

I'm not sure if this belongs here so please request it to be moved if it's in wrong spot!

I recently moved into a new house and am looking at options for Wi-Fi and TV.

    Recommendations?

I'm currently looking at DISH, DirecTV, and Charter.

Generally a bad idea to get internet service from a satellite company, so charter.

I will go with the cable provider in your area which I believe is Charter since the internet speed is faster. As for Wi-Fi is better to buy your own router than rent it from your ISP.

So far, I've had Charter and Comcast as my providers while in college. Charter had excellent speeds and is reliable, and had far better customer service.

Comcast is TERRIBLE. The speeds they deliver aren't only 1/5 of the plan I pay for. My internet recently fucked up and it took them TWO ENTIRE WEEKS to finally fix it, I had to call multiple times, and they basically told me to fuck off.

Odd - i had Charter for about 10 years before i moved (from a town of about 3,500) and it was nothing but trouble - constant outages, throttling of internet speeds, phone calls resulting in "we have somebody working on fixing it" every time... have since switched to Comcast in a larger area and I'm getting great speeds. not sure what my plan's speed is listed as but i'm currently getting 57mbps down and 12mbps up which is great.

If it's an option, i'd try to find reviews of the companies specific to your area - Charter isn't a bad option if you don't have Comcast, but i'd avoid the satellite altogether. Another thing to consider is that Comcast takes a relatively look-the-other-way approach to torrenting/piracy while Charter will throttle (slow) internet speed and send out emails threatening (never had it actually happen) to discontinue your service.

Good luck, PM me if you have questions!

The thing with Charter is that they have charges that come out of nowhere. It says 30$ per month but you can end up paying around 80$ per month. Is this valid?

Since you can't get Uverse, I'd say pick Charter for internet only and DirectTV for TV. Make you to figure out the price after promotional offers.

Although people talk bad about Comcast - I've personally never had any issues with them, they've always been fantastic.

As Josh said, make sure you figure out the price after promotional offers - a cheaper way to do so - Comcast does not contract you in as many others do, therefore, you can cancel after your promotion and repurchase a different promotion. I did that all throughout College to save money.

I know Comcast doesn't require a contract but I'm not sure what other provider doesn't require one either.

Find out what services don't require contracts and give them a call.

Also, I don't know where you live, or how these guys do to give you recommendations. Personally, internet I've had the best luck with has been Comcast and Cox.
