As a tip, on that last Cait game, it looks like you're building Shiv? Don't. Unless you're super far ahead and you just want it to scare them.

Shiv is fine if you want wave clear/split push.

PD offers better stats yes, however it's situational.

 

Shiv is never situational, if you want wave clear, you get Runaans. It's better for wave clear/teamfight on Cait.

I disagree. Shiv is a much more viable item with better stats than Runaans.

Shiv vs PD is pretty much a toss-up in terms of viability. The difference is subtle, and the flow of the game really is in charge of what you should build. In general, lower ELO games should be favoring the Shiv because it helps make up for poor CSing mechanics, and inefficient autoattacking.

When theorycrafting, PD is definitely better for raw damage output, but that's assuming you are skilled enough to be constantly autoattacking. Basically, if you are not a diamond-tier ADC, getting Shiv breaks even with getting a PD.


On the other hand, Runaan's only overtakes Shiv and PD if you can consistently land all 3 autoattacks on champions. Since fights often happen in minion waves, having none of the side shots absorbed by minions is a low chance. Also, general positioning means you're probably fighting a bruiser and maybe an assassin; most of their team is out of your Runaan proc range. Plus, in terms of general strategy, it always makes more sense to have a more focused damage output on one target, so that you can earn your team a 4v5 a few seconds sooner.

TL;DR: The theorycrafting all shows that PD = Shiv >>>> Runaan's. I never see Runaan's out of bronze, and there's a good reason for it. Ironically, you mentioned to only build Shiv if you want to troll; but the truth is only get Runaan's if you want to troll.

 

I'll answer you, as you try to prove a point.

Why I say Runaan's >Shiv is due to her passive. Fighting in minion waves still goes to your advantage, as it stacks up her passive. It helps her farm better, does much more mid/late game in fights then a shiv will do.

Shiv definitely does not make up for PD either on Caitlyn. Maybe for Bronze and Silver, as they are the same thing, honestly. Shiv is just a horrible choice for Cait compared to other items.

You will also apply more damage due to faster passive/AS.

 

Runaans isn't better than Shiv in proper high elo/most elo games. You forget the MS/Crit Shiv gives, and its passive proc that helps champs such as Vayne and Twitch when dueling.

There is no argument that makes Runaans better at current.

Up to you to believe all pro ADC's and myself (challenger).

 

We're talking solely about Caitlyn right now. Not other ADC's. With Caitlyn, the MS is nice, but not needed if you are a decent player. Crit is acquired through IE and that's more then enough. Sure, you may be better, but I've tried out plenty of builds plenty of times as Caitlyn, as she's my main champion.

 

Love how this has turned from a progression log into a debate about stattik shiv, PD and general builds for AD's.
