    Birmingham City FC - Fate?

I was just betting as usual this weekend on Bet365, when I noticed a strange game:

Bolton Wanderers - Birmingham City FC

    A little background story:

Birmingham was 1 point behind, but held the tibereaker against the last not in relegation zone team, Doncaster.

Doncaster was down 1 on the road, against the Champions of the Championship [Leicester] by a penalty in the 75th minute.

Around the time of the Penalty, Bolton scored; Bolton 2, Birmingham City 0

What came after was something special. Something I haven't seen myself.

    I watched the game live:

Birmingham City scored on 78 mins.
Bolton missed a huge 1-on-1 against Birmingham's GK in the 92nd minute.
In the 95th minute of stoppage time [was 6 minutes] Birmingham scored the dramatic goal that held them in the Championship, for at least another year. The ball's bounce, everything that happened in this 95th minute, is just.. Wow.

    Fate or luck?

    Discuss.

Ooooo, I'm glad somebody else on here bet's! I'm a proper addict... haha.

    Anyway,

Caddis scored the goal, last season he was on Loan to Birmingham from Swindon Town, my team. I'd of loved it if Birmingham got relegated.. a great awayday! I think it's down to hard work though. They didn't give up even at 2-0, and their build up for the game was huge... I think they deserved it and branding it fate or luck is unfair.

Nowhere near as epic as the colossal failure of Liverpool yesterday. Up 3-0, only ever surrendering one 3-0 lead in club history....lose a 3-0 lead in the last 12 minutes to Crystal Palace, a very average team. Pretty much costs them any chance at a Premiere League Title, which would have been their first in 24 years. All they would have needed was one City draw and wins to clinch. Talk about a choke.

That's pretty clutch from Birmingham City FC, but yesterdays game was one of the most epic collapses + results I've ever seen

Crystal Palace are far from an 'average team' under Tony Pulis, especially at home ;)

If you want to win the title, you beat Crystal Palace. City beat them easily.

Plus City had to play Everton, at Goodison Park, who is considerably more formidable than CP.

What else do you call a 13 wins -5 draws -19 loss team?

8-3-8 at home is still average.

Like I said - Under Tony Pulis.

    Crystal Palace 1 - 0 Chelsea
    Cardiff City 0 - 3 Crystal Palace
    Crystal Palace 1 - 0 Aston Villa
    Everton 2 - 3 Crystal Palace
West Ham United 0 - 1 Crystal Palace
    Crystal Palace 0 - 2 Manchester City
    Crystal Palace 3 - 3 Liverpool

Not a bad run of form, I kid you not. And City had to play Everton at Goodison, so did Palace a little while ago and beat them. Now, I'm not saying Palace are better than Everton, of course not. But Pulis has transformed them, they're no pushovers.

And, under Pulis, Palace have any lost 4 at home. Let's also not forget that Palace are currently joint top of the form table along side Manchester City, Liverpool & Tottenham - P6 W4 D1 L1... But I guess you knew all of this, right?

Palace are playing exceptionally strong in the last weeks; Though it was a colossal collapse, City are strong and it wasn't as a HUGE surprise. The way the result became 3-3 was a huge shocker, but the game ending in a draw wasn't something that you couldn't imagine pre-game, if you follow the PL.

When it comes to Doncaster losing on a penalty in the 76th minute at Leicester making a draw enough for Birmingham, which they find with that goal. Miracle, to say the least. Imagine if the Bolton defender doesn't head it right onto Paul Caddis' head, what would've happened. Also don't forget BFC was coming off a 6L streak; They had countless chances to avoid relegation. Avoiding in the fashion they did, I think it's fair to wonder whether it's luck or fate.

Offtopic: Since you said you bet yourself, watch the Rennes - Sochaux game this week, I have nearly all my money on DnB Sochaux

It would be the letdown of the season, if this Sochaux team didn't avoid relegation from Ligue 1 this season. I've been watching them for weeks, they are probably one of the strongest teams in Ligue 1 right now. I don't know what happened to them for the first 30 weeks of the season, but they have resurrected and are stronger than I ever imagined they could be this season.

3-0 is still a huge collapse. They were too busy trying to contend with an impossible goal differential that they got caught off-guard very badly. I still consider CP average though. Only in the scope of the EPL..doesn't mean an average team can't beat elite teams. Look at Sunderland's recent run, or teams like Aston Villa who have been known to troll teams. I have nothing against CP, just that if you want to win the league, you better beat them.

I guess so - I'll keep an eye on that French game as well.

As for drama, are you aware of the finish to the Doncaster/Brentford game in League one the season, the one before the one that's just finished?

Brentford were awarded a penalty, score it to go up. It was missed & Doncaster went down the other end to score and secure promotion, dooming Brentford to defeat in the play-off final to little old Yeovil...

    Doncaster involved again!

Edit: The Pen/goal was like the last touch of the game, 90th min + Stoppage.

I'm not going to lie though, I forgot CP got a new manager. I don't pretend or claim to know everything about soccer. I'll admit sometimes I put too much stock in table position. Just feeling though like that is still an epic choke for Liverpool.
