    Rent/Landlord Question

ok i DID NOT sign a lease. i have been living at this place for a while and i owe my landlord 6 weeks of rent. Which i have accumulated from some unfortuante events. He does not give me a receipt when i pay him each week. And he only keeps a record on a printed calendar the day i pay( i pay cash) and dates it. i live with 2 other people that idont get along with too well so i want to move out. So my question is . If i get up and go, will there be any legal issues regarding the money owed to the landlord. There has been instances where he even messed up while writing the day i paid him.

i live in the state of new jeresy and i tried to do my own research but it is very difficult regarding my issue to find it on line with the specifics :D

Also i just found out the other day he is a registered sex offender ( i dont have any children) but is he required to tell the people he rents out rooms to?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Legally, he/they can't do anything if there is no documentation/lease.

However ethically...I wouldn't suggest it. Even if you don't get along with the 2 other people you live with, they will face the brunt of it if you do a runner.

thank you for your help i heard the same thing from multiple people so i guess it would be okay, morally wrong but the other 2 roomates would not have to pay extra cash. its a set price from each roomate, the landlord lives in the house. its a privately owned home.

You're still trying to screw over your landlord who gave you a place to stay without even making you sign a lease. I suggest moving to wherever you intend to go and then sending him the money you owe him as soon as you can.

Yeah fucking someone over just because you can doesn't mean you should. Pay what you owe then move out plain and simple.

He'd have to serve you with a 3 day eviction notice and begin the legal process which takes at least another 31 days to get a court date, usually.

If he can prove you were living at the address he could take you to court but it'd be hard for him to get anything outta you.. but you dont wana go down that route. Could always come back and bite you in the future if word gets around- be the bigger person.

    Rent/Landlord Question

Ultimately he gave you somewhere to live for six weeks. I hope you wouldn't be so low to run off without paying the rent. The landlord has bills too - how is it even a question?

If you run off and scam him it'll come back and bite you in the ass someday.
