Do any of you purchase lottery tickets regularly? What sort of lottery tickets do you buy? Have you ever won? If so, have you broken even, gained, or lost money overall?

I always buy dollar or two dollar scratch offs from 7-11 when I have some extra cash. I play because I hope the lottery will turn my life around if I win something. It's pathetic as shit really.

No, its a waste of money. My dad has boughten a 20$ lotto 6 49 ticket each week for the past 30 years..... If I felt the need to blow some cash id head to the casino, atleast i end up having a good time for an hour or so.

I run the pool at my work. We put 5$ a week into it and it goes into which ever is higher at that time. Powerball or MegaMillions. We hit 3/5(6) on the megamillions twice in a row once. That was exciting, but it was only 5$ lol.

The first time I went to Cali I won $77 off a $1 scratchoff. Recently I won $25 on a $1 scratcher. I never buy more than one $1 one, and a lot of the times i'll get $5 on it.

On the odd occasion I will buy a couple scratch tickets mostly for the fun of it as I realize the chances of winning are minimal. One of my good friends won 5000$ a couple years back on a scratch ticket though, so that would be awesome!

I get weird feelings to buy certain tickets so I do and always end up either losing or only winning a few bucks. The most I've ever won was $50 on a $10 scratch off, never won anything with an actual lottery ticket.

Might as well throw my money out the window if I ever plan on buying a ticket.

I get a few scratch cards from family on my birthday almost every year, last year I won €20 on a €1 ticket so that was pretty fun.
Other than that I only buy a lottery ticked once a year, and that's with New years, in the Netherlands there's a huge event about it every year.

It's just a bit of fun. I'd never buy them more than once a year.

They don't have them where I live (Alabama). I have no idea how lotteries work really, a lot of people are critical about the odds, saying things like "You have 10 times the chance of dying on your way to get a lottery ticket than you do of winning" etc. In reality, the "house advantage" in lotteries doesn't matter. If there was a total 50 million spent on the lottery and the prize is even only 20 million, does it really matter? 20 million and 50 million might as well be the same to me, because both are more money than I could spend in a lifetime.

i've only won once with a simple €1 ticket, maybe the same what Cas used before. I took €10 but after that, no more. it's a waste (in my opinion)

Look at the back of the scratch cards and calculate the expected payoff. It is pretty sad. I get them as gifts on holidays sometimes, but it is a little frustrating because it would be so much better to just get the cash. So much of the gift money is wasted buying the scratch cards. Nonetheless, it can be fun to see how much above the expected payoff you can get sometimes.

Last week I opened my fortune cookie and it told me something along the lines of "great fortune will come your way"....Sooo over the course of 3 or 4 days I bought around 9 or 10 scratch offs ranging from $2-5 each...needless to say my fortune was all fucked up and just lost loot.

That was the first time in a long time that I can remember buying one, they're really a waste of money....that is until you hit something big, then its an investment =p.
