Recently been obsessed with Art and History [Treasure Hunting]

I began collecting coins when I was around 12 or 13. I'd go through dad's coin jar and look for pre-1964 silver dimes and quarters. I found a few, but never really learned much about the history of them. A few years later I began getting more involved in the numismatic community. I went to coin shows and sports card shows and did lots of reading and research on everything involving the two.

About a year ago I purchased a cheap metal detector I found online and went out to my local park. I found a silver ring with a missing gem and a lot of modern-day coins.

Just recently I discovered the show White Collar. Neil made me realize my love for art and history. My hobbies always involved history, but I never took the time to actually look into it all.. I started researching hidden treasures and treasure hunting after an episode where they find a sunken nazi U-boat filled with treasure.

I also have been going to lots of art museums nearby and am going to go pick up some painting supplies to get started on my new hobby.

Anybody else have stories about collecting coins, metal detecting, White collar, history, treasure, or art? Please share!!

My favorite painter is a tie between Francisco Goya and Salvador Dali.

Great read on Black Paintings. Goya was a mastermind. Salvador Dali's art never really stuck with me. I do love his surrealism and the melting clocks, but I never saw the true heart of his art.

I recently have been obsessed with Chihuly's glass art. I went and saw his gallery in Seattle last year and was amazed. His later work became annoying because he was mass producing it.

Dali was a master of the surreal and just the dreamscapes are what get me. A huge inspiration.

 

One of my friends described Dali as an artist who even though probably didn't take acid, he thought like one who does.

Yea, I'll definitely show you guys some of my art when I get some canvas and paint. It might be a while until I paint something I like so it might be in a new thread. Also, I will post some pictures of my metal detector findings and coin collection tomorrow. Glad to see some people appreciate history!

 

My local arts and crafts store had a couple of sales that I decided to use to save a couple bucks.

2 for $5 spray paint cans (Green and Black - fav colors)
10 for $10 little pieces of thin wood

I got home and went in my backyard and started putting random shit on the pieces of wood then spray painting with green and black. I used rocks, leaves, bricks, and even some flowers. I am very happy with the end result.

I will upload pictures as soon as the paint dries and I can find my camera.

 

I am hopefully going to pick up a printmaking kit this week when I get paid. I am excited about it.

Yeah, you carve out a linoleum block and roll ink across it and then stamp it.

I didn't realize the green would look so much like the black once it was all dried. But it was $15 in total and was a lot of fun. (I broke one of the boards so there is only 9 uploads)
