I don't like Soomeh as much as the next guy, but why is he being banned for a made up rule? Having a database has never gotten anyone banned in the past, why is it suddenly against the rules? It used to be, "you can have this PUBLIC information as long as you aren't using it for malicious purposes." I know for a fact certain staff members on this site have/had some public databases. There is no proof of him using the database, and if you think that post was proof of him using the database well you're wrong - he was merely stating a hypothetical "why wouldn't someone change their password after 5 months if they have a good account."

Come on, I want to see this ban reversed.

At the time the database wasn't "public information" and the only way of obtaining it was if you intentionally went looking for it. If you went looking for it, it wasn't to have it sit on your computer, especially given the fair amount of space it takes up. It was to use it.

When I say public information, I mean "widely available." I realize it's still not considered public information. I am going to disagree and say it was leaked as doing a time-constrained search up to September 1, 2013 gives a lot of results, many of which contain the databases in question:



The query was "soulsplit database." All someone would have to do is google it, click one of those links, and have fun. Whether it was for personal security, or cross-checking user accounts for any future scam reports, I don't know. I know that I have said databases yet I've never touched SS in any way, I just want to be able to look up a user if I were to trade with them. I will agree that it's likely that Soomeh was probably taking money or accounts, or at least trying to. 78.3 MB is nothing and I have my computer riddled with gigabytes of stuff I don't use anymore, I want to say ~400 GB out of 1 TB is all useless stuff.

(In all seriousness, the only reason I don't want him banned is so that Sythe v. Soomeh doesn't get used to ban people for having databases, particularly since I just mentioned I downloaded said database)

 

The pastebin one isn't real, all of them except the Bugabuse links are discussions about it being leaked as well... You need a bugabuse.com account to access the bugabuse links, and if you have one you're *more than likely* involved in other things that are against the rules on this website as well. Yes I am aware that not everyone on that website is involved in such things, but most are. Also, because you were able to download said database now... aka 10 months after it was leaked, doesn't mean it was as easy to obtain when he had it. When he talked about having it, it wasn't something you could find as easily as you can now, it was something you had to hunt for. Also as you said it could be used to look up people you're trading with, but in all reality 90% of the people on here who have it would try and find a way to scam or hack the user they were trading with. On top of this, Soomeh had many threads/posts about trading in Soulsplit, increasing the possibility of his involvement in abusing the database, and as you said you've never touched Soulsplit so you're a completely different case.
