Texting while driving

Are you guilty? I know I am.

Does the video make you think twice?

 

I sure as hell aren't going to text and drive, ever.
The only way I see myself doing that is holding the phone by my mouth and telling Siri what to text.

It's just too dangerous to loose your attention to the wheel only for a split second.

 

I'm guilty but I don't do that shit while driving. I do it when i'm waiting for the lights or highway.When there is someone with me I tell him to hold the steering wheel steady.

 

I'm confident in my driving, I'll do as I please. I may seem like a dangerous driver, but I know what I'm doing.

 

That's exactly the problem. It isn't a question of if you think you know what you're doing, it's the fact that other people driving make mistakes as well and when preoccupied with something like a phone it could be tough to make a split second decision.

 

Agreed. One simple slip of your fingers on the wheel can lead to a straight ride to a hospital bed or even worse.

 

Seen this video a few times actually. I purchased a phone holder for my car and can turn it to car mode and do everything via voice. It's still somewhat distracting, so I only respond if it's something that needs immediate attention.

You and your arrogant, ignorant mindset is the problem.

 

Mine has a bluetooth connection to the car so I can answer/do things with the steering wheel & voice - pretty nifty. When all cars have something like that there'll be less problems.

And yeah, people might be willing to risk their own safety to use their phones - but they're putting everyone else's lives in danger more importantly.

 

I'll be honest, I'm guilty of this. Whenever I'm driving and I get a text I'll respond, even if it's not important in the slightest. I know I shouldn't but I just do.

 

I don't know what you guys think texting and drive is. It's not like I can't see the road. There's such a thing as multi-tasking. See, I can see how the traffic is around me, and then look down when I finish my "analysis".

Stickly, as much as you think you're good at it and nothing will happen, it takes one second of thinking you're good to text to kill someone potentially. D'ya think the people who crash doing it just gaze at their phones and ignore the road for ages? I've heard of crashes coming from people just fiddling with the radio for a few seconds

I was guilty of being a texting driver but I definitely think twice or use bluetooth to do it now.

I try not text or even talk while I'm driving, since my car has manual transmission. Still, if I can respond to a message with a couple of words or a single sentence, I USUALLY only do so at stop signs or red lights.

 

I tend to shy away from texting while driving, although I do talk on my phone quite a bit while I'm cruising.

 

Chances of it happening are close to zero, especially here in Alaska, where 95% of the roads you can see the next 30 seconds of driving on.

 

"Close to zero" multiplied over the fact that most people drive their cars more than once each day for every day of the week turns out to be a very significant chance over a number of years. Anyone who knows anything about elementary probability can tell you that.

You sound like one of those "speeding isn't dangerous" kind of people. I refer to people of the like as "temporary citizens".

 

I have no friends so there is no need for me to text and drive.

Usually I try to take advantage of people who text and drive by driving in front of them and slamming my brakes hard hoping they hit me and I get a nice settlement. If that doesn't work, it makes them aware of their actions. I had a friend do this in a highway in the farthest left lane going about 80mph and he brake checked the girl behind him. She nearly got into an accident but that isn't his fault.

 

Nope. My car is manual transmission but that's not why I don't do it. It's really stupid and results in tons of accidents + when you do eventually crash it's entirely your fault.

 

I try to text while at stoplights and such, but I sometimes tend to text while actually driving. Just like basically everything else in life, knowing your limits is the key. When driving normally, I pay a certain amount of attention to the road, say, 70%. I know my surroundings, the state of the road, traffic ahead, behind, and beside me. The other 30% of my concentration may be on the song on the radio, what I am going to be doing at the place I am going, etc. When texting and driving, I don't let texting take away from that 70% concentration, it consumes the other 30%. I make absolutely sure that I am traveling a safe speed with no cars or obstacles around, and text very slowly (maybe 2 or 3 characters at a time), never keeping my eyes off of the road for more than a split second.

 

Natural selection to be honest, if you're driving down a 60mph street with lots of traffic and you're messing around on your phone and slam into someone its your own damn fault. No, I don't text while I drive. I just find it sad that we need to have awareness campaigns about this, how dumb can you possibly be.

 

Texting while driving is fucking stupid, and you shouldn't do such a selfish thing whilst in control of such a dangerous contraption.
