Does Perfection exist?

Good and bad exists as well.

I'll elaborate - The majority of the time before you make a decision you're faced with a choice whether it's a good or bad decision to make. Though not everyone thinks things through the same way as others it still exists.

If you have the idea of perfection in the mind, it must exist in reality according to Descartes.

 

There's nothing there to say anything about it though, really.

I guess it depends how you think about it.. but i would say that Perfection doesn't exist.

 

In a general sense we are meaningless. We only have meaning when we look at ourselves relatively.

 

Just because others believe in it, doesn't mean it has an existence either.

 

Perfection is just an illusion that we create to separate the better things/people from the rest of us normal folk.

 

No it doesn't. Everything will always have some form of imperfectiom

 

10,000 hours doing anything makes you unreal, so i am going to assume if you have practiced over 20k+ hours perfection is extremely achievable.

This depends on context. When I think of perfection, I think of it in an engineering and scientific perspective; perfection is a theoretical limit. A perfect turbine would convert the exact amount of energy that flows to it in to the same amount of electricity, as an example.

Thermodynamically, this is impossible because of the second law of thermodynamics; for every action there is a generation of entropy. For a perfect system, there would be no entropy generation, it would just be a direct energy conversion where all energy in equals all exergy out. However, people that design such thermodynamic devices as turbines strive to make these devices as close to perfection as they can within current technological and budget parameters, so as to maximise the efficiency and therefore the exergy of the system.

Following this concept of perfection as a theoretical limit, it shows that there's something to strive for. Just because the limit itself is unattainable does not mean you shouldn't try to get as close to it as you possibly can.

 

What I get from this, you're saying perfection doesn't exist, just a thought we strive for as humans?

 

There is no absolute perfection because people have contrary ideas on what is and isn't perfect. Perfection is subjective, one person could say "Being perfect means eating pizza in the morning". Another could say "Being perfect means watching TV".

 

Perfection is in the eye of the beholder. That being said everyone has a different view of perfection. What I view as perfection or a perfect thing is not what any other person in the entire world views as perfect. Considering how subjective it is no in my opinion it does not exist.

 

It's a theoretical limit. Just like in mathematics how you may evaluate a function as it approaches infinity, but not at infinity itself. It will never be reached, but it's a real enough concept.

 

Ahh so like a limit in calculus is what you're implying perfection is comparable to. Interesting idea which I agree with.

 

Who is to determine what perfection is? So many factors that I'm not sure it can be attainable except through Jesus when he was on Earth.

Do you base perfection off of society's view of a perfect looking man or woman? How they act? Do they cuss? Etc.
