    Teleportation Achievable?

"The laws of physics may even make it impossible to create a transporter that enables a person to be sent instantaneously to another location, which would require travel at the speed of light." - From howstuffworks

Once we are able to travel the speed of light, then we can achieve teleportation. The question is, how can we travel that fast.

Teleportation is travelling without speed, therefore magnitude is HIGHLY negligible.

howstuffworks has made a very terrible dispute regarding teleportation. Teleporting is getting from point A to point B instantaneously. INSTANTANEOUSLY. Travelling at the speed of light does NOT mean instantaneously.

And yes I'm Pulse. I'm not a vader. I'm just trying to recover my account :)

It will never work, because there is no speed involved. The idea in theory is to dis-assemble matter and reform the matter with the exact same make-up.
First problem would be most likely anything that is dis-assembled will technically be destroyed. So a debate can be made will the person or whatever object teleported be the same object or a clone made from the energy disbursed and regathered from nearby genetic relatives. I believe if we as a species are close to this, world hunger would be solved as we could change the properties of matter to whatever we desired and needed.

Hundreds and I am glad I won't be the first test subject.

    Agree and disagree.

You can't transform matter like you transform energy.
That's saying you can transform a Carbon atom into an Ununpentium atom.

    Quantum entanglement isn't like that.

Things like this make my dong tingle.

Looks like a time traveller to me. Photo was taken in 1940 and that guy has a camera and sunglasses and modern clothing? Damn!

To be honest though.. I agree with what Einstein (was it Einstein?) said. The lack of time travellers from the future proves that time travel will not happen. So that's a no from me. It saddens me but it's probably the truth.

Time traveling and teleporting are two different things. Each is messing with different dimensions. Time travel is fucking around with the "time dimension" (theory says its the 4th dimension) and the other is fucking around with the "space dimension".

I believe that with time travel there wouldn't be any possible way to go back into the past. You'd have to get your coordinates correct for that specific era and we probably do not have enough power harnessed to transport one's self back into that position because of the universe constantly expanding we're probably pretty far from where we were 50+ years ago.

Time traveling or even teleporting is just like a myth. If you travel in space way faster than the speed of light in 35 years, you won't age as much as someone compared to earth. So teleporting would be against time which is nowhere near us and we possibly can't ever beat time

I've seen the movie Jumper, and being able to teleport using the mind is pretty badass.

If the laws of physics allows for someone to teleport without physical implication, i think everyone would be in mexico for their vacations lol.

Scientifically not possible in real life, unless the guy got supernatural powers...
Your brain would need lots of power to do that...

    Teleportation Achievable?

In 1998, a group of physicists at the California Institute of Technology successfully teleported a photon (or a particle of light) over a distance of one metre. Then in 2004, an Australian group topped that by teleporting a whole stream of photons, in the form of a laser beam, from one side of their laboratory to the other. So yes, I do believe it will be possible in the future.

Maybe teleporting photons was achieved, but thinking about teleporting something of such mass (humans), while the human not suffering any physical or mental harm during the teleport would be an extremely far fetched goal.

Who knows what the future holds, I doubt anything related to human teleportation will be achieved in the next 200 or so years at least.

    Teleportation Achievable?

Honestly I've not read all posts in thread however..

To back you up. TU Delft has managed to teleport information just a few days ago. I never believed in teleportation butt his research outcome has changed my mind. They're currently setting up infrastructure to teleport information for 150M (not rsgp, ghehe)

    Cheers!

    Teleportation Achievable?

It means they teleported a qubit from one particle to another utilizing a previously established Bell states and performing certain transformation operations on one particle. Neither the theory for quantum teleportation or experiments with it are news, but what is is the fact they did the experiment using diamonds instead of single atoms or photons, and it appears to work reliably. The results are relevant for quantum computing, not so much for science fiction like classical teleportation. It even says that on the paper abstract, which doesn't require any special access.

In the paper itself, the group seems to have some new methods on their device to improve the generation and fidely of the entangled states, but I don't know what to say about that since quantum information theory isn't my area.

I'll stress that the results do not in any way imply the possibility of classical teleportation, ie. superluminal transfer of bits.

I'm excited to see the possibilities with quantum computing. Theoretically it is scary premise though. Reaching a technological singularity would be amazing and would lead to a lot of philosophical debates on the nature of consciousness and simulation. Sorry off topic.

    Not really, I can relate.

Reaching technological singularity is something way beyond our reach, just like teleportation :)
