User/IP Audit Question

I was clicking around my profile and noticed the user/ip audit link. I've seen it before and saw nothing out of the ordinary, however after clicking it today I noticed that I now share an IP hash with four other users.

I'm not terribly worried, I just found it strange as I don't funnel my traffic through any other servers (as far as I know..?). Is it possible to have that shared IP messaged to me? Or, if not the entire IP, part of the resolved host? Just to get an idea what it might be.

The only thing coming to mind is that my mobile provider might use a relatively small pool of IP addresses, from which the other users and myself have connected

There are a few reasons for that to be able to happen.

- Visiting Sythe.org via proxy'/VPN, other users are able to use that proxy/VPN aswell, so they show up on your Audit.
- Visiting Sythe.org on a dynamic IP. Sometimes these dynamic IP's get thrown into a mixing bowl, and get handed out to random users when they need another IP assigned.
- Visiting Sythe.org on a Mobile internet IP, these Ip's get shared by hundreds if not thousands of users. So there are bound to be a few Sythe.org users in there.

 

It's just a feature to give people an idea, it doesn't really mean anything other than you and someone else cross IP's along the line. Even I match with hundreds of people through my use of VPN's, mobile internet and public places.

The staff can see the full IP, host name, whether it's a VPN or not and so on in the mod control panel. So, if you're not them we can tell. And if you are them, we can also tell.
