[Update please!] Give us mobile!

I don't mind browsing on my iPhone but it would be nicer to have some sort of native app / theme to browse with, since zooming in and out all the time is a massive ballache.

 

I rather have an app, so it's easier to browse through.

 

App = tied per device or OS type/version.
Any and possibly all updates to the device the app is released on can break the app/ require another update.
Mobile support is way better, because the theme would be optimalized for any type of screen, mobile browser etc.

That and when possible bugs appear, updating an app is a pain.

 

Didn't someone already mention that this was in the works? I know that it was a no at first, but I thought that changed. (Sorry, don't have time to browse through 6 pages of posts and check).

Where is the issue when browsing?

 

My main issue is that on the homepage you can't see the catagory and the latest post on 1 screen without zooming out extensively.
Another reason is that you cannot navigate the page with 1 finger, because there is no way you're tapping the next topic page with 1.

I think if the main theme would have some blown-up buttons for pages, and a bit better support for smaller screens, i.e. lats post made shows up right under the catagory, and all the catagory icons are made smaller/removed it'd be on it's way.

 

Works fine for me, I guess phones vary. How does it look for you?

From my experience on my mobile, I can't use Sythe. I use an Android with a screen width of 5.02 x 2.63 x 0.43 inches (127.5 x 66.9 x 10.9 mm). There's simply no way for me to read all the details on this vBulletin theme within my screen. Webpage zooming is a bit screwy, but even so, I have to strain to read content and then moving about a single page is a nightmare let alone browsing an entire thread.

I would most definitely purchase the TapaTalk app if Sythe implemented it. I believe, for those who are a bit personal with funds, an .apk can be found somewhere within google results that functions well. I'd just be cautious with its permissions.

(Somewhat related) I use the Swype keyboard the slide my thumb over keys to type. For those of you who don't know, it's an awesome tool that saves lots of time and key presses - up to 80%. It's not the best when it comes to inputting exact keys such as passwords or URLs. I believe Swype is only available to Android operating systems, but apps that imitate its function can be found on the App Store for iTunes.

 

The full site version should not be an issue on any decent gen phone. Most of my activity is from my mobile device. There are no functional problems.

 

A phone app would definantly help navigating through the site much quicker. Usually takes me couple of minutes to press my fat fingers on the small links using the mobile browser.

 

Unfortunately, not everyone has this luxury. Take for example, the Mozilla smartphone that was just released.

 

It's an advantage of having such a phone. Decent gen phones have lots of variety, this means phones sold for the past 3-4 years fall under that category. If you have a toaster for a phone, you should not be browsing the internet only to complain.
