This isn't taking some charitable gesture and trying to profit off of it. It would be allowing a service to be provided, just like any other service. Work in exchange for money. Saving someone time in exchange for something in return.

 

If someone wants to go out of their way to pay for this act of kindness, what is the problem? Both parties are happy.

 

I'm not referring to what the general purpose of this site is, i'm referring to this suggestion and the kind of example it sets for the younger members of this site.

Which is why I said we're suppost to set an example.

The passage of knowledge is free, so why charge for it? I'm not saying obtaining the knowledge is free, but helping others obtain it doesn't cost you a thing.

 

First of all we have no responsibility to coddle children. Most people here are at least in highschool and able to determine whether doing their homework is important to them or not.

We allow game black markets, gambling, drug/sex discussion etc.

There is absolutely no reason why we have to have a specific rule against this to "set an example."

Having someone else do your homework isn't always a bad thing. I'd sometimes give my little brother college composition work and a few dollars since it was like 7th grade work and I couldn't be fucked with such remedial garbage.

As far as "knowledge is free" goes that is absolute bs. They would be providing a service, that takes their time and effort and expertise. Exactly like any of the other services that are offered here. You think people are here leveling accounts of the generosity in their hearts? Why would it be any different if you spent an hour doing someones chemistry homework?

 

As I already said, having someone else do your homework or help you with it isn't a problem. It literally costs you nothing other than your time, nearly any other service on sythe that people charge for costs something wether it's a start up cost, service cost, item cost for quests ect. Charging for a free service is against the rules unless i'm mistaken.

 

Ever heard of hand done powerleveling? Ever heard of LoL boosting? Just because it doesn't cost something to do doesn't mean it isn't a legitimate service. Your labor is worth money.

There's a fine line between helping someone accomplish something in a video game, and accomplishing something in real life.

Anyway, while that may be true in this case it doesn't really matter. The effect of someone paying to have a homework assignment done here isn't going to be large in real life.

There is no example to set, that isn't the point of this forum. There just isn't a real reason to specifically blacklist it if two people voluntarily decide that they want to contract with each other. An outside party's opinion about the transaction doesn't matter at all, just the consent of those involved.

Either way people are going to add each other on skype and offer to exchange money for it.

 

Still waiting for a response from a MOD/ADMIN.

I think a suggestion may need to be made to be able to prompt a MOD/ADMIN to come view a thread when there needed.

I just wanted to address this to reinforce what Darkest said in reply to it. There are plenty of paid services on Sythe which only cost the seller his or her time - namely LoL boosting, which is a huge market.

The whole debate is basically just a moral argument about cheating. I feel that cheating in school clashes fundamentally with the principles of acquiring a well-rounded education, and I personally would not pay someone to do assignments for me, but I still believe an internet black market site should allow such activity.

 

Bump, any MOD/ADMIN input on this?

I did this once and was lost when it came to exams. Failed overall.

 

This has been said before, your fine to have an opinion, but it's deemed irrelevant, either way the rule shouldn't be present on sythe.

 

Shows employers that you are a good little slave and will do useless, meaningless work and not question it and be their little bitch while they pay you just enough to cover your student loans and force you to come in everyday to that bullshit 9-5 rat race job.

Glad to be in $0 debt, but that's one of the other reasons why you have to take bullshit courses in colleges and your gen eds (which is the same shit you just did in high school). The other reason is to keep the pyramid scheme going for people who major in things like English. Do you REALLY need to take another composition class or literature class? Wasn't 12 years of that enough? Can't you read and write in your spare time? Nope, have to take those classes so the professors can keep their jobs and so that future english majors have a job lined up, to teach kids to teach kids to teach kids, 0 production is done.

 

Keep posting your arguments for, and against this rule change.. Roary Said he is reading them and on the fence about the decision, Lets try help make his mind up!

 

I'm babysitting (help) so I'll explain my conflicting views while I have a minute's quiet.

For arguments:

It will, in theory, boost activity in the help & requests section if people can require or ask for payment.

I agree we shouldn't have rules in place just because we don't want people to cheat in school - that's none of our business.​

Arguments against:

The support section is the one I like the most. It was what first drew me to the site and started me off on staff. I still look after the section and moderate it as though I was a support sectional. I feel like that forum as a whole shouldn't be somewhere that people browse in hopes of gaining financially from
offering knowledge and help. Just my personal feelings on the section.​

Points to consider:

Offering/Asking: I think that if we do "drop" the rule we should allow people to offer a payment or small donation as a thanks for time but not allow people to post threads asking for payment in return for help or post on threads which do not offer payment asking for payment. i.e. someone asks for help with their english homework and offer no payment; people shouldn't be allowed to reply with "yeah I will for 5$". I think that takes the whole spirit and point of the support forum.

Assignments/Homework: I think we should consider the difference between these and just note that there is a difference? Maybe, idk I'm going off on a tangent.​

 

I still think if people can't post requesting help and offering payment, then it won't encourage people to do it for them, they will still be sat around waiting for someone nice to do it.

Also, I personally think people should be able to make threads offering their help/work for payment, then people could determin who's going to actually do the work, and what standard its going to be done at.

 

I dont want help & requests to turn in to a marketplace for exploiting money; no way. If people want to do an essay service or whatever then they're welcome to in Real Life Sales market.
