How many of you download torrents?

I've downloaded 38 terabyte's of TV shows and Movies in 1080p over past couple of years anyone else do it as well?

 

This is in about a year and a half. A lot of the downloads aren't accounted for due to freeleech and other trackers.

 

I've downloaded all seasons of Breaking Bad and a ton of movies.

 

lol i torrent alot of things tbh best way to get free stuff.

 

Music and ebooks mostly, I just stream movies and series online..way easier and doesn't cost space on HD

 

I buy everything I watch/listen to.

 

Pretty much this. Torrents are legal but often the content downloaded / uploaded with them is copyrighted. Why people feel it is perfectly fine to rip off game developers or film producers out of their work is beyond me.

 

Torrent the odd game and the odd ISO for my Wii but that's about it.

Hardly anything at all.

 

I do Torrent games once in a while to try them before buying. If I like the game though I usually make a point to go out and buy it to support the developers.

I used to do a lot of torrenting, around 30 - 50gbs a month. I pay for satellite and DVR services but it can only record 2 shows at a time, so there are times when I can't record certain shows. Therefore I torrent those shows.

Since I started using Steam a lot more I don't torrent nearly as many video games. I do torrent games if they are new and I can't find a good LP of them. They used to release demos for games, but not many developers do anymore so I torrent to try them out. If I like them I'll buy them from Steam.

 

Not really no, I tend to buy most of what I watch / play.

 

I never torrent games because they're always faulty, and you usually can't play online.

I always torrent movies and music. They're doing just fine on their own without my 10 dollars here and 99 cents there. When they brag about box office smashes making tens of millions in the first week, I give no fucks about their copyrights.

 

Yeah, I torrent a lot of stuff.

FLAC audio since I can't usually find what I want even on paid sites. TV shows that I didn't catch on TV that they're trying to charge $2/episode on iTunes or not on netflix. Movies before they're released, and if its good I'll see it in the theater again. Of course software applications that are just grossly expensive, photoshop for example.

I try and throw money at the person when I can, but no way in hell am I paying $1000 for photoshop.

The way I see it is I download it and use it and enjoy it, or I don't and never will be buying it. Might as well get the use out of it since either way they get nothing.

And if everyone had that attitude, they're going to lose money, aren't they? How would you feel if you released a massive hit film / video game and poeple just posted it on the piratebay for others to download free of charge? It's a bit of a middle finger don't you think?

 

More and more indie developers are posting their own stuff on TPB and encouraging people to download it if they can't afford it and have got a lot of positive feedback.

 

Unless they welcome it, you shouldn't steal it. It's not like it breaks the bank to have a little respect for the amount of time and effort put in to the venture takes blood, sweat and tears to write and produce an album or direct and edit a film. There are thousands of people in and involved in a film, so all those millions dwindle down quite a bit when paying them all.

 

Lol the only time I pay for a movie is at the movie theater torrents are just to big now you cant stop them

 

Honestly though some of these developers should just be happy that I'm playing their game or a producer happy that I'm watching their movie. More likely that I will buy into the series in the future, and I'll probably mention it to friends or something.

Some of these games/movies that I'm kind of 'meh' about are things that i'm never going to buy anyway. I don't particularly care about respecting their intellectual property just for the sake of it, and in most cases it will have no financial impact on them. If anything it'd be a positive one because I like the game/movie and buy into it or the merchandise.

 

I generally torrent TV shows. TV shows are free anyway online on their respected Network sites to stream it. As for games, for the most part, if it's available, I'll torrent a game to only test it out before I buy it. If I don't like the game then I'll delete it from my PC. I don't like having needless stuff hogging my HD.
