    $2.3million theft and murder

This guy killed his partner, stole 2.3 mill went to Florida and a prostitute tipped off the police. They recovered $1.3mill and the guy told the judge to "not lecture him".

Why would he kill his partner? he could have just knocked him out or something and took the money. The death penalty is already off the table because when they got him i guess the family of the guy he murdered didn't want him to die instantly, they wanted him to have to live the rest of his life in jail.

If what i read is correct he will be serving 10-20years for robber and 25-life for murder.

    What a scumbag

    What an educated response.

Let this be a lesson to all men.

But in all honesty why would he not just knock him out as OP stated? He would have like a 10 year maximum sentence and he could of hid the money.

Maybe he had something against his partner and it was not all about the money. Also he seems to show no remorse for his actions when he told the judge not to lecture him

Wow, read the whole thing and have to say I am pretty shocked, gotta say, good job to the prostitute and it's good that he hasn't been given the death penalty. I think he should be locked up for the rest of his life :p

Oh god.. He has the same name as me.

What I don't get is.. Why does he need that much money? I'm sure he could have taken a portion to keep to himself. Killing his partner just puts him at a bigger risk, unless he knows something we do not.

He probably was acting out of anger, killed his partner as a result, said to himself "I'm already going to prison for this, might as well YOLO" and stole the 2.3 million.

The family has no control over what sentence he serves. It's completely dependant on the prosecutor and what they think they can get out of them. If there's no death penalty it could be a clear-cut case in which the prosecution is extremely confident in a conviction in their favor. Not all prosecutors seek the death penalty, due to their own ethics.

Fun fact - I was at an arraignment last week (waiting on a distant family member to be arraigned so I could drive his punk ass home when it was done) and one of the offenders who faced the judge had an attempted robbery charge against him. Bail was set at a $500,000 bond, however, due to the fact that he had killed his partner in a dispute (if I recall correctly from what I had heard - he killed his partner because his partner had done something that was going to get them caught), and was not yet formally charged with the murder of his friend.

It was probably the only case out of the fifty I saw that day that in which our courts arraigned a real criminal. The rest of the people there were (mostly) lowlifes, but not truly criminals. Our Judicial System is a laughing stock .

If you think the US has a shitty system then you should see the UK's. Our murderers get let out 10 years later sometimes.

I wonder what happened to the other million as the police only recovered 1.3M.

The family does have a say in what the sentencing is. Often times, the family of the victim meets with the District Attorney and goes over plea deals and other offerings, as in many circumstances before a judge accepts a plea deal (yes the judge HAS TO accept the plea deal as well), a spokesperson from the family can be presented to the court.

Therefore, the family does have a say, just a small bit.

As for "just knock him out and take the money!" It was probably an act of passion and not thought out. He probably wanted to take the money rather than see it go to waste in a police evidence lock up.

As for the "don't lecture me" part. The guy is just a fucking idiot. Listen to the judge and be respectful and remorseful for the crime you committed and MAYBE you can get a lesser sentence.
