    Super Smash Brothers

    Hey all,

Now, I hope that we're not dealing with people young enough to not remember owning or atleast playing on a Gamecube here. One of the most popular games for said console was of course, Super Smash Brothers Melee.

Sparking any memories for anybody? Nostalgia comes flowing back?

Well, A few months back, I found a documentary on Youtube, A documentary based on the competitive side of Super Smash Brothers, What started as a party game, quickly became one of the biggest competitive fighting games ever, It followed the time line of when Smash first became an E-Sport, up until now where the scene continues to grow and has a MASSIVE community behind it.

After watching this, I plugged my Gamecube back in and got ready to smash smash bros I guess. I practiced hours every day on my technical skill, match ups, combos, reading my opponent. I played in my first tournament not too long ago and picked up 3rd place, falling short to 2 players who are top 10 in the country.

Even if you have no intention of ever playing competitive smash, the documentary is a great insight into the lives of competitive gamers like my self and show's how Esports as a whole develop and start out, communities, rivalries and partnerships.

The series link can be found here : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoUHkRwnRH-KTCH3tJ9WvsWWPEgUu-y6d

It's a long series, but it's worth every minute I personally think, I'd be surprised if this doesn't bring out the competitive gamer in you, or you atleast go and pull out the gamecube once again and get going with it.

I hope that even 1 person picks up competitive smash from watching this, and I hope to see you at a tournament someday not too far off ;)

I love renting an n64 as a kid and playing supersmash bros... Definitely my favorite n64 game, it was just so epic getting a few friends together and having an awesome gaming session.
