    Question about Job and taxes.

If this is in the wrong section, please move. Didn't know which was the right section.

My buddy works cleaning air ducts and doing other varies repairs and works off commission per job. He offered to pay me $300-400 cash a week, out of his paycheck, to help him out.

How would I go about filing taxes and whatnot for cash payments since I wouldn't technically be employed my the company?

    Question about Job and taxes.

Honestly I don't think you do go about it at all. It sounds a lot like hes having you work off the books for him. Honestly that kinda sounds like a sticky situation if your dead set on trying to file something...question though, why exactly are you trying to file? Why not just get the cash in hand and leave it at that since it seems like it would be a side job for you?

Edit: I actually have a buddy who's doing the same thing, He's working off the books but he files his taxes as Self employed? Ill ask my girlfriend about this in the morning, she knows all about this shit since she's an accountant lol.

like above, sounds like some plain old under the table cash type deal.

I feel like it's a terrible idea not to file it.

    Question about Job and taxes.

I'm not too experienced with taxes and the such, however I think it depends on how long you plan on doing this.

If you're doing it for a few weeks or a month, I don't believe you'll need to declare it seeing as it's only 1,000-2,000$.

However, if you plan on this being a longterm thing say 6 months, that's more substantial, and as above said, I would file it as self employed. That's pretty much what it is.

If he paid you in cash under the table, undocumented then you don't file it.

    Question about Job and taxes.

If he's paying you cash and it's not recorded anywhere (Not contracted etc.) then you don't have to file taxes. That's ONLY if you have a job etc. Let us know how you're doing! :)

    Question about Job and taxes.

    Don't do it.

Why? Biggest reason would be go get yourself injured and good luck paying the bills because they sure hell won't and you can't do anything about it because you weren't employed by them on paper. There are more reasons but safety should be your number 1 on your job list and that's all you need to know. Your friend might say otherwise but I don't care about anyone if my safely is in danger unless it's a family situation.

It's a hard/nasty job and I know because I have stupid friends who tells me about it when they were offer the same job type deal.

It really up to you, I wouldn't recommend it unless you NEED a job and your going to starve. Even if you do take it, be cautious and remember that you can say hell no if you don't like the job and leave.

For your question, you don't need to file any tax forums.

    Question about Job and taxes.

I wouldn't bother filing taxes, also how many hours a week would you be working for the $300-$400/week? Just curious.
Also, don't let him make you do all the work..
