Emergency!

Have you ever had to call for emergency services? Examples of emergency services would be police, ambulance, or fire.

I've luckily never had to call 911 here at home although I've accidently pressed the emergency button on my phone in my pocket which has pocket-dialed them.

What do you have to dial to contact them, and what emergency did you have?

 

I have had to dial 911 a few times. I work as a night receptionist, basically campus security. If someone is puking as a result of whatever (usually alcohol is the culprit..this is college after all....) we are required to call the paramedics no matter what. It's a tough job..the hours suck (11:45 PM to 7 AM), and it's no fun going through that added stress in the wee hours of the morning on top of the stress of not being able to sleep.

I've had to call 3 times and each time it was more serious than the previous one. I've since been promoted and do more of the behind the scenes stuff now, and work more manageable hours.

 

A few times. My old neighbor was dead for 15 hours and my call probably saved his life. Funny thing is I wouldn't have even knocked on his door and noticed something was strange if my daughter didn't accidentally knock the ball into his yard.

 

Did I read that right? He was dead for 15 hours, you then called emergency services...and he lived? Rigor sets in after only a couple of hours haha!

Nope, I have yet to call 911 personally! I volunteer at my firehouse and respond to calls all the time though.

 

He had a heart attack 15 hours prior and survived. I consider being left in that situation with a slim chance of anyone finding you as dead

 

Never actually. The building next to mine caught on fire, but I slept through it :\

 

I've never had to directly call them, but my sister was at her dad's house and he beat up his girlfriend so my sister called the cops on him.

 

Me and my brother dialed 911 to see what was up when we were about 4 and 6

 

I've never called however there is a 'panic' button at wendy's and one of the chicks that work there hit the button.. within a couple minutes there was three state troopers running in the building, They wanted to talk to the manager and they asked her for all her information cause they thought she was the robber disguised as a manager haha it was a fun day

 

Never, and honestly, I hope I never have too. It must be horrible to be in a situation where it'd be the only way.

 

Someone was open carrying a big rifle on the streets here (remember this is the UK), so I dialled 999 and reported someone walking round with a firearm.

 

Three times off the top of my head, once when I broke my fingers trapping them in a fire door on a night out, twice for my girlfriend - once when she broke her back at the skate park and once when she had an asthma attack in my uni halls.

I've called non-emergency before when my cars been broken into and stuff, but only called 999 three times.

 

Luckily never.
Know a guy that prank calls them, he'll get what's coming to him.
