Unique forums?

What are some of the most unique or coolest forums you guys have ever been a member on, have seen, or have pictured in your head?

Just curious.

 

I'm not sure who would picture themselves being apart of a forum when all you have to do is register/sign up.

 

I was a part of a board that was themed around leveling up. When you hit X posts you'd gain access to the next forum. It was an interesting concept. I've also played part of several forums completely dedicated to advertising.

 

Probably should try and work on your English then =p

When you sign up you become a part of the community or user base, therefore becoming a part of the forum.

 

That's actually very unique. What were the 'levels' of forums?


Advertising forums isn't very unique, though..

HabboHotel. It was horrible, but still it was unique, and I wish someone would reinvent the idea on a higher budget and with a little more creativity


By the way, the idea behind it is forums portrayed in a virtual environment. Your threads are rooms, discussion is basically avatars chatting which is logged in the room's forum board, and you can customize shit, including your thread/room. Think of how people create graphics to make their threads more attractive here at sythe. It's the same concept, but 3D, and with an economy just for thread decoration

 

I think sythe.org is pretty unique, can't really think of a more interesting community.

 

Interesting concept, but how would you make it work for buying/selling? Sounds time consuming.

 

Much the same way IRL auction houses work probably, but it also doesn't have to be fitted to a market. If it were fitted to a site like http://forums.offtopic.com/ it would be a godly experience to behold with their 1000+ REGULARLY active userbase.


Actually, now that I think about it, it would be cool to put in a similar feature to WoW's auction house or maybe the grand exchange to take care of market-related threads. The difference would be the TYPE of thread you post, the type of room you create for your business. You could choose a lounge for discussion, or an auction house for market/business related stuff, and anything marked as "auction house" etc would be connected to a central hub where people can immerse themselves and navigate to the room-threads they wish to participate in...

It's just food for thought, I don't have the expertise to create it, or the money to commission it

Reddit is very unique and there's something for everything.

 

I don't know any more finer details than that, Habbo Hotel botched a similar idea with shitty programming, bad servers, and even worse content, and I've only given minimal thought as to how I would do it because I don't have the resources to even consider programming this.
