Zombie Apocalypse

Background:

The U.S. government says that they want to eliminate a big portion of the worlds population, and without the knowledge of anything happening they "poisoned" all public water supply systems two months ago and there is only one cure for it and it is hidden in the bunker in the white house. If you survive two years, the government will find you and let you know everything is back to normal. They will provide the cure for you and you will be provided with a nice amount of cash for surviving


Your story:

You live in a rural area with your wife/husband and 16 year old son. You live off of well water so you were not affected by the "poison". You are really close to your neighbor and they were not affected either. You only have enough food and supplies for everyone for two weeks and you know you can find lots of supplies in the city which is 40 miles away.


Your response must include AT LEAST:

How you survive on a day-to-day basis
Short-term and long-term goals and how you will accomplish them
New* Post apocalypse

My response:

First thing i would do was start documenting what me and my family/friends do on a daily basis, establish a defense system to keep people/zombies away from our house. Build a garden on the roof of the house and have someone on the roof on lookout at all times. Day to day i would make sure AT LEAST 1 person is awake and looking out for intruders, build ditches around the house, build traps if people got past the ditches, have everyone stockpile whatever weapons we had and bring them in the basement, try to get one of those things they have on submarines to see above ground from the basement.

I would then, after securing the house and making the basement a safe room, try to find a radio and make contact with other people and try to make a big group of people with more than enough resources to feed who we have so they wouldn't want to revolt. As a group everyone would have a job, we would see what people are good at and let them do that, unskilled people would get the no experience needed jobs, like lookout/ditch digging/food and water distribution/etc...

After everyone playing a role in survival (not knowing it'll be over in two years) , we would start building walls and make ourselves a city. After two successful years of surviving we would all celebrate, however after it would all be over i am not sure whether the people of the city would want to leave and go back.. knowing how successful we were who knows if they would want to stay or not!

 

The people living already in Washington have a lot better edge, this is unfair.

 

Your biggest problem during such a situation wouldn't be the zombies them selves, It would be other survivors after the same as you are.

You'd leave the rural area for somewhere deserted, Taking with you what you can and finding a natural water supply, as long as the water is not still, it's usually more than safe to drink.

Shelter is clearly a must, nothing too fancy as you don't want to attract attention to your self and what you have.

Don't take on more than you can handle, it wouldn't be my responsibility to look after anybody other than those directly closest to me, I wouldn't take on additional people unless I feel I could supply them with what they need at no loss to my self.

As far as supplies in the other towns go i'm not sure how worth it it would be. With everybody thinking the same thing it could be rough, also heading into the most infected areas sounds like a death wish to me. Live on the land, if they infected water supplies they could of infected food / bottles water etc etc. I wouldn't know any better so wouldn't risk it.

Short term goal is obviously survival and setting up base camp etc.

Long term would be either be obtaining cure or a method of getting rid of the infected.

 

So I have to swim across the atlantic to get to the white house?

 

The easy part is getting to washington, hard part is getting in the bunker!

Good response where would you go from your house? how would you travel? if you are using a car/truck what happens when you run out of gas?

Sorry Roary, i guess the head government of all countries would have a cure.. smaller the country less cures available that they have

 

Can I steal an airplane or something? walking to washington dc is kinda ffs.

 

Alrightttt,

Precautions I would take:

- Consolidate my family or neighbor into whichever house is more easily dependable.

- I would set up some form of perimeter around the house, set up some form of early warning detection system. Doesn't have to be anything crazy at first literally it would be fishing line and something that makes a decent amount of noise. I would make the paths of least resistance harder to pass...example beaten paths, roadways etc. . .and eventually booby trap them. Then the immediate area around the houses and the houses themselves would be made less attractive to the onlookers (not looking to draw a crowd of people scavenging)

- Noise and light disciple is a must. No lights on at night, if anything a very dim red lens light tops!

- Any real work like fortifying or what have you would be done at night, don't want to make it easy for any potential on lookers to see whats up.

- Start a garden in the least visible spot on our property

- Between myself, my son, my neighbor and whoever he has that is able we will set up a guard roster of sorts. There would always be at least 1 person up and about checking out whats going on. Its also situational, but definitely at the beginning of the apocalypse someone will always be up.


I would live life pretty regularly actually, we are in a rural area...I'm lucky that my neighbor likes me so I don't have to worry about him haha, We wouldn't venture too far out of our houses proximity unless we had to.

short term goal: Establish a solid refuge for ourselves...something that can be defended and something that is structurally sound. Gather all useful items from both houses and inventory them. Make a list of items that are absolutely needed,and things that would make life easier...then start developing a plan on how to get them. Find a map if we don't already have one...so we can figure out the best way to get into the city...because we will have to eventually

Long term goal: Ride out the storm, you said the government did this to thin out the population so they must have it under control even though it seems like shits chaos.


I'm sure I missed a whole bunch of shit but yeaa you get the gist lol.


EDIT: Also, I have no plans on going to DC to get that vaccine....everyone and their moms are already trying to do that. Tis a suicide mission lol.

So you would kill and loot people? a single person probably wouldn't have that much loot on them you would have to find a village/house with a couple people if you wanted real loot!

Alright so 2 years to hold out, I probably wouldn't know that since I would imagine that would be privileged information!

But Long term survival we would have to do our best to get everything we need off of the land. I'm hoping our well holds out haha.

Hunting would play a key role in our food situation. Do I have any of the firearms/ammo I actually own? If so I'd use the my .22 for a lot of small game hunting. Everything from birds, squirrels, racoons and anything in between. I like the .22 because I have a lot of ammo for it, and its substantially quieter than anything else I have. I'd make use of traps that I know how to do... which is only a snare trap and deadfall...but I'd get creative and figure out other ways lol.

Surviving people/zombies for 2 years:

I'm not so much worried about zombies...unless they're the "World War Z" type zombies...anyway zombies I'm not so much worried about since as you said we're in a rural area, and I'm assuming its super rural because me and my family were living off a well in the first place haha. I'd be more worried about actual people because if I lived in a densely populated area the first thing I would do is find that said rural area.

Anyway what I have on hand to defend myself right now is an m1 carbine, wasr10/63 (ak variant), M1 Tanker Garand, sub2000, ar15, ruger 10/22, and 4 of my Dads old rifles.

Survival of the fittest. I'd first kill my neighbour and his family and steal their supplies before they attempted the same to us, next I'd bury their bodies in the woods and pack up their car and make it look like they went away for the weekend for vacation which would buy me enough time to plan my escape. I'd then steal whatever valuables they have in their home and sell them. I'd take my kids and my wife and hide them in a warehouse locker, provide them with enough supplies to live for a few days and a gun. I'd go on a killing spree, and get enough medicine, bottled water, food and weaponry to last the winter which shouldn't take long at all because I'd have my brother with me helping me who has been in the army.

After all is said and done, my family and I would be running constantly never stopping just collecting supplies and living life until we died. I'd trick and steal and do whatever is needed to live.

In all reality if this did ever happen, I'd probably end up drinking the water and roll the dice. Also how would we know? If the government told us, no one would drink the water.

 

Nice amount of guns there and yeah , you have everything in your house.. the zombies are like walking dead zombies (i haven't seen world war z yet :/)

You wouldn't know it was over until two years later, the government would find you at let you know that they have been watching you the whole time and they are proud of you

How would you sell the valuables ? what if the person you try to sell/trade them to tries to kill you and your family to take them? then your family is no longer, how would you go on a killing spree? guns? what if you run out of ammo? knives? you would have to get close combat if you wanted to use those. it wouldn't be as easy as you think when everyone that is alive is also in survival mode, not just you!
