    Severe lower back pain..

I know that no one is a doctor on sythe or anything but has anyone else experienced severe lower back pain after exercise? I workout a lot and I really over did it in the gym I was in there for 2 hours and I am paying the price for over working my body.. I was doing Russian twists and Leg ups in sets of 50 for an ab workout. The next day I woke up I could hardly move OR bend over. It has been 4 days since then and it is getting slightly better.. Any suggestions on speeding up the recovery time? I went to the health clinic at my university and they gave me muscle relaxers and some steroids. This is the first time that I have experienced this in my whole 4 years of working out and it is odd to me.. Could it possibly be something more serious then what they told me? I'm worried because I leave for basic training in 2 months and I really don't want to be DQED for this.

    Thanks for your responses!

Your lower back is sore. Ice it and give it time to heal.

Avoid excercises that use your back for the next while. Do NOT push it. Take your relaxers and lay back a bit for the next couple days. :p

Just give it some time. Our bodies take a while to heal. It sounds like you may have pulled something or over worked yourself. Just take the medication, ice, and go back to the gym in a few days.

Edit: Or if you are inclined to going to the gym before your back heals, avoid any exercises that would put strain on your back.

Same thing happened to me years ago when I started working out my back. I was doing dead lifts like a jackass. It took like 3 months for the pain to completely go away.

AHHH improper technique I assume? Remember to lift with your legs and squat down don't use your back or you will be in some serious pain :D

Inversion is supposed to help with lower back pain (LBP). The separation in the vertebrae is supposed to allow heavier blood flow, which brings in proteins to repair the damaged muscle tissue.

Some say the effect, however, in negligible. While the science behind it is accurate, the effect isn't prominent enough to help. Still people report it helps with LBP.. So I guess give it a try, what do you have to lose?

Probably tears in the muscle or something. It can happen easily just moving the wrong way or because you haven't been training your body evenly. Does it hurt when lifting your legs or tilting your head around?

Stay active, don't rest too much. Those who rest with back pain normally end up worse off than those who keep moving around. Obviously no excessive movement or lifting but keep walking around and stay on your feet.

No, that shouldn't put any stress on your back, and I hope you feel better soon!

My uncle had this, You should buy a tight belt (not like the stylish belts) but the belt that tightens around your waist. This will give you alot of support when you bend down and the belt is big and it goes near your belly button :) or wherever the pain is

    Oh uh, hanging upside down
    [IMG]

Inversion specifically, because your legs aren't bent, whereas you might expect someone hanging upside down is hanging from their knees. That puts pressure on the muscles since you have to flex to keep your knees bent. So inversion is where you hang from your ankles with no support from your muscles

I'd lay back and take it easy, you will definitely be fine in 2 month time. Let us know how it goes! :)
