What Ram Do I Have to Buy?

All I know is that I used DDR2 ram.
Does that mean that I could just buy any DDR2 and plug it in, or do I have to use a specific model?

Here's a picture of the numbers on my current 2gb:

It's usually best to use the same make/capacity RAM together, but you don't have to (it just might not work). Just make sure to put the sticks in the correct slot(s) on your motherboard.

you're running old, outdated RAM. Since it's no longer manufactured, you're just going to be buying old stock. What this means for you is that you get to pay dearly to have any decent amount of your outdated RAM. It's just the way that it works for RAM, it worked the same way with DDR when DDR2 took over....and the same will happen to DDR3 when (G)DDR5 takes over.

You probably won't be able to find large capacity DDR2 sticks for any sort of reasonable price; before you go and spend an arm and a leg trying to find a decent amount of outdated hardware you might wanna price out your other options. for just 8gb of DDR2, you're looking at over 200 bucks on newegg for 800mhz (PC2-6400) RAM like what you have.

Any DDR2 ram would be perfectly fine.

Probably cheaper overall to replace mobo and ram, like paying for DDR2 you're buying old out dated products, not only that but if you find cheap second hand ones then you're likely to run into faulty ram problems not too far down the line.

Neither of you have any idea what you're talking about. Please don't spread misinformation. He can replace his 2GB stick for $30.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231203

If he wants to upgrade to 4GB its much more money (assuming his MB only has the one slot) so it may not be worth it. If it has a second slot (and what MB doesn't?) then any DDR2 ram will work just fine.

If you upgrade the MB you need a new CPU and new ram. That's like a whole new computer and will run you a lot more.

If you don't know what you're talking about, don't fucking post stupid incorrect shit.

    Thanks for the input,
    I think that I have 4 slots.

Does that mean that I can buy additional ram for each slot?

Say you have 4 RAM slots in total, and you have 2 sticks currently installed. You can buy another 2 to fill up all of the slots, yes.

Yea. Just look at your MB manual for which slots to put them in if you don't fill it all up. Sometimes which slots you put the ram in matters.
