Do College Athletes Deserve to Get Payed?

I'm asking this because of the recent article that came up with Northwestern University's football team.

In a summary, they're pretty much asking for a salary during the year.

What are your opinions?

Yeah they get college payed for but if you think about it, they get no spending money which is vital for college students and they're also one of the main incomes for University's. Texas University alone brought in 139$ Million dollars to the University just from the football team.

What do you guys think?

You are getting a free ride on the educational system which is costing some people upwards to 400k in debt that they are working a side job to pay off while doing school.

You can't get a job due to NCAA rules. The life of a college athlete is pretty much a job. If you think about how much they get, and the revenue they bring in, it's not even close to being civil.

If they had set amount for a quota they had to meet in order to get paid it'd be tough for lower income schools to get athletes to come there.

If they are good enough, they WILL get paid.. a lot.

 

Yes they should get paid, without them the schools wouldn't be getting the kind of money they do.

 

What about to the kids that aren't good enough? Just because some are good enough doesn't mean you scrutinize just one group of kids to get the money.

 

What i mean by the ones good enough getting paid is the ones who get recruited by nfl. If you pay them salaries that would make it thier "jobs" or profession and they ARENT Pro athletes..

Best thing about college ball is the aggressiveness in which they play. They play that way because they are hungry for that NFL pay.

What next pay high schoolers? Why not peewee league ect.


Leave the pay for the pros, its a game to play for fun. These kids got it fucked up.

 

It's legal for high schoolers and pee wees to work to make money. They also have the time to work. NCAA athletes go to class and all the other time is spent on working out or practice time. Then add on studying and eating, there ain't not time to make money....its ILLEGAL.

I doubt a salary would lower their aggressiveness because they still wanna get to the NFL, getting a salary doesn't change that at all. Lol.

On April 22nd, they said they can work during the year and not exceed more than 2,000$.

However, there is no way in hell an athlete can work due to the demanding schedule of collegiate athletes.

 

That's not true at all, i know tons of college athletes who work part time jobs.


You are basing this off of the fact that they play a game for the school, and the school earns money off them.

But you are forgetting that fact thay 1, they are getting a free education into any field of study they desire, 2, they are getting free room and board.

So not only are they getting a free ride, if they are smart they will have a career path to fall back on if they don't make it in the NFL., they don't deserve shit, they are piggy backing a free ride, to which if they are even worth investing the money into to begin with will have the chance to earn millions, which i personally think pro players are way over paid as it is.

What about D1-aa, D2, D3, NAIA athletes. Yeah they don't bring in as much but they still bring in the most for the school.

They may have part time jobs outside of the season but in-season no way in fucking world is that possible. I know that for a fact.

All I'm saying is they deserve a little money on the side to support themselves. To do things that college students do, not just parties and what not. I'm talking bout going out to eat, taking a girl on a date or something. If they have no means of money from back home, they're fucked.

You scholarship contract states you are getting a free ride in return you play ball and maintain a certain average. How much does it cost per average for a college students room and board? for lets say a 4 year school, on top of that what does it cost to teach said student? what does all the bus/plane fees cost, what does it cost to feed that athlete?

Thats their income, athletes arn't workers, they are a investment, playing a game isn't a job.

college isn't about going out to eat, or getting some pussy it's about studying and getting the fuck out of there, i mean have you even been to college yet?

 

I actually did used to play college football and am currently taking classes. I no longer was able ton continue that dream due to injuries. I played on a Division 2 team and I can tell you there was no way in hell I could've worked during season and during off season we were just as busy. I could work during the summer but that's about it.

I know it's not but it's about the experience also. I'm not disagreeing with you but god damn hahahah.
