College and Runescape.

So I'm ending my Highschool life this march, and college starts on May. I wanted to get all your advice on whether or not I should still keep playing the game.

I have a little dilemma here. I'm in a swapping FC that allows me to make profit better than any method on runescape. For the past month that I was a rank, I had always kept my focus in swapping rather than playing the game. It's come to a point that I am making decent profit irl from this game. So my question is, should I keep playing runescapw througout college? Or should I just play to swap and sell my GP every week?

    Thanks guys

Depends if you enjoy the game and can actually manage your time. Everyone needs an outlet - you can't keep studying in your downtime. The only way to really tell is to wait and see.

Whichever you feel benefits you more. Once college begins you will understand priority.

Thanks Bglave and swan. I think I will prioritize college over RS, it's just that RS was my childhood and it's hard to let go, you know?

I guess I could keep playing just to swap and sell for real money

It all comes down to time management man. If you can find time to do your studies and play runescape / swap then I see no reason to not continue playing if it becomes a problem you need to realize that you'll have to cut out runescape. Otherwise I'm sure through college you'll find yourself busy with other things outside of runescape and other online activities.

Best of luck with college man!

I you're able to discipline yourself and say "only an hour" then come off and as long as you do coursework as soon as you get in, I see no probs.

Make a list of your priorities and tackle them first. If you have spare time, decide what your free time priorities are as well. If Runescape is high on that list, then go ahead. Just be strong and don't spend more time than you are alloting yourself.

    College and Runescape.

As a college senior and this being my last semester I been through this exact situation. I have played Runescape since 7th grade and when I got to college I told myself that I could use my free time to play as much as I wanted. Truth is you will have plenty of free time between classes but you will notice that other things between to come up like Football games, basketball games etc. Then your real life friends will want to play video games and go out so you be left with a choice of being social with friends or playing runescape. I was unable to find anyone at my college that played (not that I really looked) so Runescape took a back seat to my social life. I still logged on once a week or so to flip items in the ge but other than that I didn’t play at college. But the moment I went home for breaks I had more free time than ever to play runescape and I did some serious leveling then because my logic is my friends aren’t here so I’m not being anti-social.

As roary and other says, it’s all about time management. No one in college will care if you play Runescape or not it’s not middle school or high school. I happen to know many frat members and even a few girls that played it back in the day but none of them play it now because of time. Just be yourself, I know it sounds cheesy but if you divide your time up you can easily play Runescape in college it’s no different than countless hours on COD or NBA2K14. The only difference is social setting, I personally couldn’t bring myself to sit alone and play runescape in my dorm room instead I had video game tournaments and would log into the GE while waiting to play.

College is the best time of your life, you have the freedom to do whatever you want. You just have to see what works for you but whatever you do please don’t play Runescape your first week. Do the cheesy stuff, like ice breakers and stuff that your resident’s hall has as an RA of four years I promise you this is how friendships are made. If you play Runescape your first week you will find it much more difficult to meet new people because friend circles will already have been built. Lastly, remember that Runescape might not be around in 5-10 years so plan accordingly that advice help me make choices about whether I should log in or not. With all that said, once you got a friend circle play on man just don’t let it consume you.

Agree with Roary, my first semester of college all i did was play runescape, before class, in between class, and after class ... i was addicted haha but i sold both of my accounts now and my grades went from d's to a's already

Moral of the story if you listen to what Roary said you will be fine, just control how much you play

What I would do is quit entirely for the first semester. You need to adjust to college first, meet new people, and learn how to get ahead in your classes before playing a time draining game like Runescape. Don't just play in your free time, because it's very easy to overestimate the actual amount of free time you gain.

i agree in some way with the above, but i still think you are able to play, as long as it dosent affect your school and social activities.

As long as you can manage your time, and get everything you need to get done, I see no problem with still playing.

I personally wouldn't go near games if I was doing a serious course at College. But everyone's different, if you can manage it, go for it.

Thanks guys. Yeah I believe I may need to quit for a bit, maybe for the first semester. Is college much different than highschool? I hear you have more free time

Disagreed. You have more freedom to choose what you do. You have less free time in a lot of cases.

Reason: generally you need to spend a lot more time doing self motivated study, as well as actual work to bring in some sort of income to sustain your studies. Even if you do have more free time, you have to properly manage it to do well.

Yes, university is incredibly different to highschool. Inevitably you'll go there with a highschool mindset, but truth be told if you treat it like highschool you can fall pretty hard. There's a lot more responsibility involved, and as I said, time management is essential. For example, at my university if you hand in assessment even a second after the submission deadline it will not be marked and you will fail that assessment entirely.

    I disagree with Swan.

I played sports in high school, which meant I woke up every day at 7 AM, and didn't get home until 6 PM, which, following a shower, food, and homework, left me with ~3 hours of free time to play RS or whatever.

In college however, I could just wake up at noon for class, be done by 3 PM, and stay up until 3 AM playing RS. It is very easy to lose track of time, and using the "I can sell my gold" notion is a justification that makes you feel like the time you waste on the game is somewhat productive. Unless you are making a CONSISTENT $20+ per hour, which, you can only do with a botfarm, hosting dice, or staking, ditch Runescape entirely for the first semester.

Hmm so you recommend I quit for the first semester? Idk man, Im making more money than I ever was by selling gold hosting for a swapping fc, and I could use the extra income. But yeah I guess you're right, a botfarm could be my second option if worst comes to worst and I have 0 time to get on the computer

I suppose it depends on lifestyle then. I do not play sport at all, so my main commitments are academic in nature. I spend more time studying than I ever did in highschool, I barely play videogames any more, amd half of the time when I go out it's to maintain connections rather than because I enjoy doing so. I also used to get drunk and party a bit in high, but now I refuse to drink more than a couple of goblets of wine during semester. In highschool I had a LOT more time to slack off. Now I have barely any.

Many of friends share similar sentiments to me, but birds of a feather, I suppose. I guess I should note that I am the kind of person who would loathe graduating with anything less than honours.

I guess it depends on your financial situation. Personally I hosted (equivalent of a swapper these days) in my second year of university because I needed the money to pay for my schooling. Then again it was way better money than any part time job I could have gotten. If there is a part time job available you might as well take that over your swapping job unless you really enjoy swapping. Do what you have to do to pay the bills but remember your main concern should be your schooling. If you already have enough money focus on schooling.

If you just enjoy playing runescape outside of the finanical aspect, just play the f'n game lol.
