New laptop is running slow?

So after I start it up and log in (all of that is fast), it starts to stutter when I type in Chrome and Word for the first 1-5 mins

My specs are...


-Windows 8

-Rating: 4.7 windows exp

- Processor" Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3537u cpu @ 2.00GHz 2.50GHz

-Memory 4.00GB (3.89 usable)

-System type 64 bit operating system x64 based processor

-NVIDIA GEFORCE 720M

 

There is evidence that Windows 8 has run into problems with many applications. You might have to reinstall Chrome using this method. http://www.chromestory.com/2011/09/windows-8-chrome/
I don't think it would matter the difference whether it's a laptop or desktop. Your specs seem compatible to run Chrome but, it could be Windows 8 that could be the issue. Also, there is a known slow run-time for Word using Windows 8. Would you think downgrading to Windows 7 could help the slowness of the laptop? Its really getting frustrating seeing as I have essay's and assignments to do

 

Most definitely! Sorry to put it bluntly, Windows 8 is shit. N4N0 is an IT Specialist in the military and even he can attest then same sentiment.

Yes. However, you could possibly look for a crack version. I don't know how savvy you are with cracked software, but it is possible to use a cracked version. Obviously you'd have to back everything up first before you do anything and I recommend downloading Windows 7 to an empty flash drive prior to attempting anything. If you are not confident you can do any of this, I'd take it to someone who can do it for you. However, you will still have to pay for a legit Windows 7, you will be charged install fees and there is no telling how long you'd have to wait to get your laptop back from the tech.

Edit: I recently upgraded from my long time beloved Windows XP 32bit to Windows 7 64bit. It took only a few hours to do it and a few tweaking here and there.

Honestly, i don't think it's a problem related to the windows, are you able to tell which temperatures is your CPU running @ ? Have you performed a scan ? Do you have for example CCleaner ? Antivirus? Do not format it already before checking the basics first.

 

It's a brand new laptop. Antivirus/registry isn't an issue.

 

OP didn't say it was a brand new laptop?
Those specs are good, doesn't mean it's brand new unless he told you that, if so i apologize.
I don't know what he is doing with the computer and what applications he runs on a daily basis. That's why i mentioned that first before installing a new windows.

Edit: Can also be the hard disk.

 

Well he specifies in the title that the laptop is new.

Either way, windows 8 is trash regardless. He'd be best off picking up 7 in the long run.

Well, I just wanted to know more info because a computer running slow can have many factors/reasons, try installing Windows 7 then.

If you don't have money, go for it, it's the same on the end of the day.

 

Don't download a cracked version. Get a legitimate copy, then after you've installed windows just use a KMS activator to activate windows. I'm using one on my laptop, and also used it on Trins PC. I could send you the one I used if you need.

This would have been my recommendation as well. Just because you could install a crack version doesn't necessarily mean you should.

 

When I built my tower it came with a windows 7 home premium disc, could I use that?

 

I'd recommend against home, you're better off picking up the ISO for professional

 

How full is your HDD? Maybe downloading a computer cleaner will help you? Try CCleaner from Piriform.

 

Did you ever check if you just had an abnormal amount of useless processes running?
