FBI Acquires and Seizes DPR's (Silk Road Founder) Bitcoin Wallet Valued @ $28.5M USD

Interestingly when the FBI moved the coins out of DPR's wallet they did so in increments of 324 BTC at a time, a number which is congruent with "FBI" on a telephone number-pad.

 

I wonder what they plan on doing with all that money?

 

Well, until the court case is completed, they can't do anything with them (from my understanding). After the court case is done, which could take 2-3 years or more, I assume they will liquidate the wallet. This will turn the market absolutely upside-down for awhile. Will be interesting to see.

 

It's pretty incredible this site was active for so long without any real ramifications. I had a good friend that utilized this site a couple times; I could never wrap my head around the idea.

I'm curious as to whether they'll auction them off in DC after the conclusion of the case. It might be worth the trip for me to check that out.

They still don't own the biggest wallet

 

Seeing as how it is a electronic currency with no serial number, there honestly is no way to auction and item off that essentially doesn't exist. As for these coins are always changing. Their value, I for see will be used to continue the investigation links as well as sting operations.

 

I'm interested to see if they actually keep a small investment in bitcoin or if they liquidate ALL of it. =p

I'm also thinking about what will be FBI's plan about the millions that were seized in the Silk Road bust. However, just recently, I've researched on that and found out that the FBI will hold the bitcoins and liquidate it until the judicial process is over.

If google is right it is the biggest wallet that the FBI holds atm. Probably some other market from deepweb has bigger one but unlikely i think.

 

SilkRoad is actually back up and running, his name on the forum was passed down to the future owner. In fact his name, Dread Pirate Roberts is linked to a movie, in which the name is past down from pirate to pirate.

Pretty sure the biggest total amount of btc a user/group of users have is not the FBI.
Founders of BTC and some major exchanges are bound to have more than that.
