    What's the best method to solo it?

    It used to be Zspear pre-EoC and into EoC a bit.

    I'd prefer some suggestions on some gear that's not too expensive.

    I highly suggest you wear full gano with firecape or something better along with zspear. It works in eoc/rs3 effectively compared to other wepons :)
