[Warning] NEW Skype Exploit [Warning]

ALWAYS REQUEST A SYTHE PM / LIVE CHAT CONFIRMATION WHEN DOING A TRADE VIA SKYPE

Anyone who does not do this is going to get scammed.

There is a new Skype exploit being used on trusted Sythe members to gain access to their accounts. This is not the traditional Social Engineering method, in which the perpetrator asks to reset the email by providing a list of your information.

There have been Skype accounts hacked recently which have had all fake + secret information (email, personal info, etc.).

As a community, we should all be very aware of this going on. Yes, Skype was pretty unsafe a few months ago, now it's absolutely useless. I have been experimenting with a Live: Skype account, which thus far has been secure. However, I am still not 100% confident that this alleviates the risk completely.

We should also discuss ways to better protect ourselves on Skype, and attempt to figure out how this vulnerability works. Only by understanding it can we prevent it effectively.

 

How can you not figure it out. It's pretty public lol. Just google it and set the search time for the last week

 

Good to raise awareness! I always wondered why everyone seemed to want to communicate via Skype when I first joined, but just went with it since it seems to be everyone's preferred method of communication.

 

Most people ask for a pm on sythe anyway, but i feel some people who are big sellers with a big rep should make personal live chats to prevent this from happening

 

Jeremy Wade is one of the main people abusing this exploit.

The lesson to be learned here is don't take any stock in skype conversations, make sure to use sythe PM's before doing any kind of trade.

 

Back in effect, basically all Skypes right now should be assumed unsafe.

thanks for the warning. i was scammed by someone very trusted because they were hacked on their skype. luckily, they refunded me and it was only a small amount. i know it wasn't their fault b/c they would never scam.

 

Do skype resolvers exist still?

I been using Plus.IM and was never able to pull up my real IP.

Thank you for the warning. You just saved me a lot of money. I was going to trade a guy from another forum we been talking via Skype. I always ask for a Private Message all the time i trade but he told me that the web site won't load so i was ok because we traded before. I read this thread just 10 seconds before sending him 3 bit coins. Now it comes out that the person on skype wasn't the real owner. Thanks RS2!
