This is great news for Bitcoins, as it will further allow ease of access to the mainstream public. Seamless integration of payroll duties will make it much more likely for business' small and large to adopt it in the future as one hurdle after another is being put to rest.

Good job BitPay! Another gain for the community.

Not that I'm going to want to be paid in BTC, but very good news.
Hopefully they'll release similar API's for LTC and other altcoins in the near future :)

Problem is, it isn't instant gratification for your money. Many people are broke, as in they live paycheck to paycheck. Although I don't, I do have autodraft on many of my bills. Meaning whenever I'm paid, its taken out of my bank account for bills. If you were paid in BTC then many bills wouldnt get paid.

Wouldnt chose to be paid in BTC unless it was accepted in many more places.

If you check the actual API, it allows employers options to pay a percentage of payroll in BTC... It is a choice, not a requirement. And this would reduce the entry barrier of signing up for specific sites to obtain cryptos. Convenience and ease of use is the next step in integration.

TJOC, would you not even want to receive a few % of each paycheck in BTC consistently over time? If more places adopt this practice, if would only further the snowball effect of adoption it has today.. Which would generate even more business.

No I wouldnt, because I don't use a % of my pay now for BTC purchasing. Way to risky to recieve it. I only accept BTC whenever I don't have much invested into something and there isn't much of a risk if I lose it. Rather than work, wich consumes much of my time and I work very hard at to earn money.

Eh, then that's where your views differ vastly from mine. The way I perceive it, you're looking at it almost the exact opposite way I am. The more people view it as a service that can (certainly) bring some improvements to the current system, the easier it is to make others follow suit. BitPay had their merchant list at around 12,000 last year, this year, they are up to 20,000+ merchants accepting BTC online, with Overstock already doing so months ahead of schedule (CEO posted that they were to start in Q2 of 2014, they were too eager for that wait, and it definitely paid off, as their first day sales from JUST BTC customers was $130,000), Newegg already posted they are putting serious consideration into it shortly after the Overstock adoption, and it's only a matter of time until Amazon and eBay jump on board. Once this happens, what stops restaurants accepting them on a widespread scale when their high volume of customer service they have to provide can be drastically improved / made much more efficient (menu items can be paid for instantly through mobile wallets, getting rid of the need for waiters to constantly travel back and forth with the receipt and processing the payment, which in turn get paid fiat through services such as BitPay), major convenient store chains using them as a payment method for their already automated checkouts (which would be an easy integration), etc. (so many possibilities, just listing a few practical ones.)

Good concept, especially since in the long run, employees might actually make a lot more money then they earned. But, if it crashes, that could be very risky.

The problem is that the US isn't going to likely accept BTC as a currency any time soon, meaning that unless you're paying under the table this won't be mainstream. There is only one case in the US that rules BTC as a form of currency, but it is a private currency which means that its use is highly restricted and I am assuming means that it can't be used for pay. I could be wrong about the last part.

You can't buy stuff right away or pay bills right away, what if the market crashes, or goes up a lot. What a lot to think about if you want to get paid this way :D
