Those figures are no use without some guideline to comparing them, let's say number of crimes with a gun per 1,000 citizens, or whatever.

I think firearms are great, I think the people that use them for senseless killing sprees are the scum of the earth.

I am pro gun rights all day long, but I will say that they definitely make killing easier. I mean to say that they don't is crazy, I'm pretty sure that's why they came to be. To make soldiers more efficient killers was the goal.

I will also say that guns do not kill people, the cliche saying "people kill people" follows. Which I without a doubt believe to be true, I have a sub2000; magazine loaded no round chambered sitting but 20ft away from me and I know for a fact it will never go off without me charging it and pulling the trigger.

The common question that's always asked "why do you feel the need to own these rifles"...Well honestly I guess I could say RIGHT now I don't "need" it. But what if in the future I do? I mean its the same concept as people keeping a spare tire in their trunk, they don't need it or think about it until it'll benefit them in the future.

Also I like the history behind firearms, especially American made rifles that served in wars. 1903 Springfield a bolt action rifle chambered in 30-06. Designed in the late 1800's and still saw wars up to Vietnam. That's pretty god damn cool if you ask me.

There's so much history in these rifles and that's just awesome to own a piece of it!

Stat's can't really even be used in arguments like this to prove your points.

AUS Population: 23,335,843

USA Population: 317,295,995

The US has 13.5X more people so of course it's going to have more murders and such. And even the stat's like rape victims higher in AUS (1%) but more people are raped in the USA's .4%. There's also many variable's to the who is getting shot and what it's related from. Gang violence is a major variable you have to account for also. How many of the killings are robberies gone wrong? How many are people enraged by say a cheating spouse? The numbers switch around big time then.

Simply getting rid of firearms isn't going to stop people from getting them and I would rather have the whole population being able to have an opportunity to have their own gun then just keeping them away from law abiding citizens.

 

Its per 100,000 and the stats are not are higher than 13.5X (besides jails but im not sure if its good or bad since I think jails in both countrys are crowded.

You all answer with family security, however some people are really careless with guns, they are not a toy!
several times I have watched the news and more and more incidents of "accidental shooting" brother shoots sister etc thought she was a burglar.
They should be stricter with the requirements to own a gun, not just "self-defense". That way everyone wins.

 

You just can't compaire 2 countries such as Aus and US without going into details. Do you even know that most gun deaths that aren't suicides are gang related? If you have an image of normal people going around killing eachother then you should really rethink it. Using plain number like this is making you look ignorant.

I live in Estonia and I can tell you that there are very few guns around. I personally know only a few people who have guns and those are for hunting only. Basicly guns are no problem at all. No gun crimes, no nothing(can't remember when I last read gun related news that were about Estonia). Yet if you look at the statistics then Estonia beats US.

If you are trying to proove a point by compairing countries then look into Mexico where they also have a firearms ban. It's a criminal heaven there.

Guns are ok in my book, im quite the enthusiast. Guns dont kill people, people do. 99%+ of gun owners are responsible and never get into trouble with them
Do a google search on the crimes perpetrated by chl holders ect, you will be surprised.

Also im all for hoarding and understand it for the most part ESPECIALLY ammunition. Good priced ammo is a GREAT investment for ANYONE. Ammo prices constantly fluxuate and with the last commercial lead smelting in the US being shut down dec 31 prices will continue to rise. I hate to say it but these shootings and whackjobs are making guns and ammo very lucrative because of the fear.. Im looking into getting my FFL and getting in on the action

I own all of the mentioned calibers and they are GREAT budget calibers, especially 7.62 x54 i have three mosins atm, a 1944 izzy 91/30 a 42 izzy 91/30 (beauty) and surprisingly the ugly, cheap and AMAZING chinese type 53 carbine. Seriously, they are often the most used looking mosin but my mismatched chicom 53 bolt is better and it gets 3 in groups off a bench at 100 yards. Thats with surplus mann. What have you got? Im looking for a pre ww2 tula with a hex receiver.

 

This is a hard question for me. I want to say "People who know how to use it for good should be able to have one", but how do we know who is going to actually be able to use it for good instead of evil?
I personally think only police officers (or whoever else) should have guns.

Instead, for self defense, let's have tranquilizer guns ^_^
I was actually joking when I typed that, but then it got me thinking.
I mean, sure, if you're in a robbery and get tranquilized they'll take your stuff, but at least you won't get killed.

 

Well personally I think that guns are ok it is how people use their guns however some nut jobs go and kill people with their guns so I totally understand his argument but I personally think guns are ok

 

Robbers will not being using legal guns... therefore, argument invalid. Tranquilizer guns aren't made for humans for a reason. #1 every human would need a different dosage. Similar to anesthesia, this is based on age, weight, and gender.

Guns are fine. Background checks just need to be enforced harder.

 

I think anyone should be able to own a gun. The fact of the matter is someone could kill someone with a knife, a colt 45, or an assault rifle at the end of the day guns aren't killing people. People are killing people. If we don't sell guns people will find a way to get them anyway.
