Supports CAN Carry Games

I've always had really bad experiences in the bot lane versus a Leona, so I tend to ban her every game just cause I hate her >> I always knew a bunch of CC wins games

 

Nice work.

Supports are pretty important for setting up kills. They have a significantly lower impact on the game than the carries, though. No real debating around that.

 

I beg to differ hardcore. I've had ADCs with 40% winrate on their champion end up going like 5/1 in lane because of the impact I had on the early game. Your carry can't snowball without a good support.

 

Well, that's true.

But, realistically, as a support late game, you can only set your team up with opportunities. Whether or not they are too retarded to take them (and, in many cases, they are) is up to them.

 

Just had a thresh "support" me and go 0/21/5 and got my lane super fed. Got the same player next game and he refused to do anything except support, did the same second game as well :/

 

Supports are extremely crucial early game. Usually when firstblood happens bot without a jungler's help it's due to a play made by a support.

 

Well, I've also found a few things that help my teammates' dependability:

1) By calling support, everyone else tends to get their lane. Rarely people fight over a lane, and definitely nobody is fighting to NOT get support.

2) Happier laners = people who focus better and are more comfortable roaming/all in/etc.

3) Being a support who DOES ward, and ward in the right places, it's so easy to have map control and to catch unwary people off-guard. (Note: in my Gold II/Gold I ELO when I'm not supporting, I still get a TON of games where I mouse over my support's sightstone and still see only 1/3 wards placed practically every time).

4) All in all, good morale and people who are playing their "main" mean I see more follow up than you'd expect.

 

Up until 2 days ago i had never played a support character (not once) I just finished up a 10 game set playing blitz 8/10 wins. Ive been more successful with pulls then i thought i would be. Its so far the most natural lane choice ive found so far. I enjoy setting up kills and allowing my adc to control the lane. Only problem is blitz has been banned almost every ranked game i play lol My next purchase is thresh

 

Thresh definitely has the highest skill cap for supports. His hook is much harder to land than Blitz's, and successful hooks are generally less dynamic for play making (especially in low ELOs where people don't realize a Blitz hook can be countered by punching Blitz's ADC in the face once he pulls you). Thresh is also very vulnerable early game with low base armor, and overall his mechanics are just very dynamic. He's rewarding when mastered, but TBH the low-end skillcaps are still just as good at making plays in low ELO games.

Leona and Taric are very easy to play playmakers. Thresh is definitely worth buying, but maybe try the other two tanks as well. Annie is another notoriously strong playmaker, although she's a carry support rather than a tank support.

 

Leona is my go-to support and is absolutely ridiculous. I would consider Thresh a better "Carry Support" but you need to be amazing at him.

 

Unless someone on your team is really fed, support will always be one of the most carrying, if not the only one. The name of the role itself means carry. A good supporter can initiate, make calls and know how and when to back off. Its not just about warding. Its about making the game as clear as possible to even the newest player.

I'd argue that Janna is as difficult to play at an elite level, but she and Thresh are tough to compare because their playstyles are so different. And yep, normals or ranked, supports can definitely carry games. My winrate when boosting and playing support instead of a carry is maybe 5% lower, probably closer to just a couple of percent.

Leona can carry games single handedly, I like playing her in the Jungle.

The CC lock + tankiness is so good.

 

Those are games on my smurf, I sold my main. All those games I can assure you that everyone on the match was trying their best. These last matches that I've been having were the best I've ever had on league. Im perfectly aware that normals aren't that special.

 

I can usually carry with Lux or Morgana. Easily with Lux tho so easy to just own niggas.

 

A positive support / one that chooses to actually support seriously usually helps bring the team's morale up. Like KeroKeroCola said, everyone is able to get the lanes they want and there is no pre-lobby flame wish usually means no in-game flame within the team which leads to a positive attitude from everyone thus they play better than if they were stuck with a negative team.

 

That's when you dodge =/

 

Plus you play against supports who got stuck playing support and don't know the counter-strategy meta of the supports. If they first pick Leona (who's OP as fuck but is really weak until level 4), I first pick Karma and get level 2 FB every time. Or if they pick Annie, most Annies don't realize that the cooldown game is the way to destroy her face. Wait for one spell to be on CD and her entire combo is now worthless.
