Have you ever had a PMOD account? If so, did you exploit your power?

Since I first discovered player mods in 2006, I've always wanted one. I've always been interested in the perks they receive as their often very secretive about it.

Have you ever had control of one? What were some of the perks like? If so, did you use it for a reason that didn't comply with Jagex's strict rules?

 

No I haven't.

Although, way before I was in the RWT scene an IRL friend was. Legitimatly, not just saying this. I was at his house one day and I just watched him play. Pretty much as closest as I've ever been. He told me Pmod, which I wish I would have wrote down. Lol. Wasn't anything spectacular with the rules, ie- don't abuse power, don't speak of what happens in mod forums, etc.

This guy was a fairly "odd" guy, a true gamer. Like he got quest cape without using any quest guides, etc. Truly enjoyed learning the game, where as I was always just interested in getting rich and beating other players in PvP or stats.

He was a mod from 2006-2007, now if you remember, this was whenever Jagex told us "We will never ask for personal information, email addresses, etc"

Well in 2007 is whenever they began asking for these things, they started by asking the PMOD's for there irl location, for demographic reasons. He said they wanted to know what parts of the world they had more pmods or something.

Well, being the guy that he is, ended up resigning from being a PMOD because Ye didn't want to give them his location because "He wants to be anonymous". Pretty silly to me.

If I ever see this guy again, I'm going to offer him $100 for his account. (He doesnt' play) Not worth it for the stats, but my theory is maybe I can convince jagex that I want to be a pmod again somehow or something. Change ip and stuff obviously.

Did the guy know that jagex already knew his demographic location? I doubt he was using a proxy or vpn

 

I'm not sure. We were only 13 at the time and didn't know a ton about computers. Now that I think about it, not sure why they were even asking the pmods, but they did for some reason.

 

That's pretty interesting. Did you know him from school or something?

 

Yeah, we went to school together. Whenever I first start playing RS we would do things together. We didn't talk much after like the 9th grade. He doesn't have a Facebook either. Literally no way I'll find this guy unless I run into him one day.

 

I have been and currently still am a Player Mod since 2009. There are small perks however it's nothing drastic. The most beneficial "perk" by far are the PM lounges which have alot of interesting topics.

 

Zomg, how do you become a PMod? Lol just kidding. How many questions do you get a day? Can you please post a picture of the mod forums? Just what they look like? Thanks.

Yes. You can mute people in game as a pmod, right click and mute player. I muted most of World 2 Fally years ago and got "Manually Banned" lol, still banned for another 10 more years or so.

 

I too was a moderator, I abused my powers by being paid to mute people after people lured someone :3 pahah

 

My friend gave me his player moderator account in 2009 when he quit runescape. I was 13 at the time and obviously chose to abuse the power. It was pretty cool, you had your a "mute" button which automatically muted a player for 30 minutes, until a jagex mod reviewed wether or not they would continue with a more permanent mute. Im not sure wether or not I was able to access a control panel of some sort, but I believe I did have some access to some features which others didn't. The only thing I clearly remember is the automatic right click mute.
