Comcast, my old friend.

Looks like it may be time to stop playing again. I had this about 8 months back. Does anyone know what might be causing a ping issue like this? I feel like I have tried everything.

 

Are you using a wired or wireless internet connection?

 

Currently wireless but the problem exists with ethernet connections. (maybe 5ms difference when the ping is stabilized)

 

I'm guessing you have tried restarting your network hardware and disabling your firewalls.

Have you tried setting up QoS (Quality of Service) rules on your router? If not try that and if that doesn't fix the issue maybe you need to call Comcast to get it sorted out.

 

Hm, thank you for the advice. I have tried calling Comcast before and really ended up having to wait it out. This is a brand-new modem and router.

Source: 2 years of hell with them.

Call support, get a tech out, rinse and repeat until they get off their lazy asses and figure it out.

Probably a signal issue though, as I had similar issues on several occasions. Signal coming into the building was too strong and was frying my modems.

Seriously though, put the pressure on them to figure out what it is and fix it, or it'll never get fixed.

Also.... Fuck Comcast.

 

Yeah man no problem. Those are just some basic things I know off the top of my head. Hopefully it doesn't take long to fix your issue. Also, QoS is something you should set up for your own internet devices, especially if you share your connection with others. Having QoS setup will make you receive priority over others.

Cable companies are so difficult to work with. I wish you luck man.

Story of my life though, one out of every 3-4 games I experience connection issues to the point of disconnecting. Not a *massive* deal in normals but still an extreme annoyance.

 

Lol South Park's views on some shit are typically pretty accurate. This being one of them. I can't imagine disconnecting 25% of games. That shit would not fly.

 

On a related note, have you looked at THIS thread on League's forums? The troubleshooting there caused my ping spikes to become much less frequent. It also dropped my average ping by about 15 ms.

 

Thank you for the advice. I actually tried that the first time I had this problem. Unfortunately it doesn't help much when my ping is in the thousands.

 

I used to get a big, bad ping spike (800+ for 10+ seconds) almost once a game, and it was getting worse. I did those 8 things and it has almost completely stopped.

Like I said. Harass comcast to fix the issue. The problem is more than likely on their end. I have gone though this more times than I care to admit. Comcast is shit, and their customer support is even worse, but the only thing you can do is keep harassing them until they fix it.
