Make luring a perm ban offense

The act of luring is to swindle someone into a trap. To scam means to swindle, both have correlations within themselves. Because of this it should be a permanent ban-able offense. There is a psychological factor within this that is heavily ignored and at most times approved by other members. Under the pretense of it being okay for virtual goods is no better than scamming itself. Let’s create an example of the two and see if they actually have a difference.

Example 1: Luring on a game

 Bob is sent a pm on Sythe about a clan.
 Bob is then joined into a group chat with the (fake) clan members.
 He is then swindled into thinking he is apart of this group.
 He trusts them and brings his valuable items to be the most effective in this clan.
 He is then backstabbed and his goods are stolen by his clan members.
 Bob is confused, angry, shocked and possibly depressed by this event.

Example 2: Scamming on a game

 Bob is looking forward to buy an item in the marketplace.
 Bob is then approached by another member about the items he wants to buy.
 After talking about this trade, bob is convinced that the person actually has what he wants to buy and goes along with the trade.
 Bob’s trade partner then takes his money and leaves.
 Bob has been scammed. He is angry, unsure and deceived.

As you can see there isn’t much a difference in the procedure as the whole goal of luring is to scam another member out of his belongings. We shouldn’t laugh at ones misfortune because he didn’t think this would happen. You can be surprised about all the methods of luring and how effective it is, even on the smartest of people.

Someone will probably mention that because Runescape allows luring, it should be allowed on this site. Well you’re wrong. It has always been considered scamming and should be reported as that. He are some sources to ensure you I am correct.

    Sources:

    http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Luring

“Luring is a term most often used to describe a player tricking or deceiving another player by leading them to a dangerous place, most likely in the Wilderness. Since 28 March 2007, it has been considered scamming.

    http://puu.sh/69Nbd.png

Jagex Moderators taking action against Lurers. These lurers have then been permanently banned.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t9BBWaJ_Jo

This should be handled the same way scamming is handled. I’d like to hear what you guys think about this.

This has been discussed many times before and has always been denied.
If Sythe will make luring a bannable offence then Sythe will lose even more members.

Sythe has already lost a shitload of members, let's not make it worse please..

    No support.

I don't think that Jagex's opinion matters whatsoever really...

My opinion is that it shouldn't necessarily be a bannable offense, but at the very least it should be kept away from sythe. I can only imagine how shitty it would feel to be at the receiving end of that, cleverly taking advantage of someone isn't okay with me.

I would hardly consider "losing" people like that a loss, that's like "losing" scammers.

Why should we keep the scammers? It's not a common issue and it shouldn't be something we accept. Don't want to reiterate my reasoning because I thought I made it pretty clear in op.

I see what you're saying. I brought up runescape because at the times these suggestions were denied, the majority said it was allowed on runescape so it should be allowed here. Just wanted to clear it up and put it out there that it is not. I said it should be a perm ban offense because it falls under scamming. I'm not sure how the punishment would go if it wasn't allowed on here.

As much as I would like this to happen, as it is essentially scamming, it's been denied a LOT of times. It's just not going to happen.

I'd support, by definition they're just about the same thing. I see no reason to stick to bad habits/endorse them.

Long story short, luring is stealing someone's hard earned money via deception.

Nice suggestion, but I doubt this will go anywhere.

Those sources are from 2007. The rules have since been completely rewritten.
    Current scamming rules:http://gyazo.com/f9915c2eb7bbc9cc470faa3173fff59c

In addition, wouldn't any kind of glitching to gain an advantage over other players be considered just as bad as luring? I often see people requesting/selling staking glitch methods. If this were to be approved then sythe would have to deal with a plethora of other moral arguments, which would end with more members being banned.

I don't support luring, just stating the obvious.

Just because it's been denied in the past doesn't mean it's not a valid point. When i first joined sythe i initially thought luring was against the rules, only to find out that it wasn't. In my opinion it is a form of social engineering and scamming. You are enabling the person to believe they can trust you when in reality they can not, and holds the potential for the person or people luring to profit off someone else's misfortune.

To clarify, in my above post i'm referring to making posting on sythe looking for people to help you lure shouldn't be allowed. Banning people for luring offsite (finding people in RS) i wouldn't agree with.

Although scamming is scamming at the end of the day.

Thank you everyone for the support and hopefully this can be rethought.

Nice pickup; the rule is pretty much what I am totally against. The act of deceiving another player through persuasion resulting in them losing their belongings.

I would view glitches as scarce commodities, as there are many variations to glitches you cannot taken action against it. I see where you're getting at though.

I wouldn't know how to handle that to be honest. I'm sure it shouldn't be an offsite offense, that would be kind of silly. Just as long as it isn't done here.

Luring sythe members as described is not the intention.

If I'm honest I've thought about this myself. I dont think it's the same as scamming per se, but I think those who actively lure to gain are the same people with no empathy and who would probably scam to gain. I think encouraging deception to gain will tempt someone to deceive and scam to gain more.

Who cares if its sythe members? Since when is taking advantages of someones nativity to rip them off okay?

We don't have to make it a perm ban or anything, but lets at least make it infractable to discuss here.

I never once said it was, let's have a proper discussion about it and get somewhere rather than another argument-filled case of "do not suggest" & lock. I was simply saying that the example in the OP is not how the section/threads were intended to be used.

However, as I said in the main part of my post, I do believe it encourages one - who may never have lured before - to be encouraged to think like a scammer would (and think this is okay behaviour at Sythe.org), deceive like a scammer would (and think this is okay behaviour at Sythe.org) and ultimately.. go on to gain from others' misfortune and loss (and think this is okay behaviour at Sythe.org).

People, most of us included (us being a part of a community who trade/do deals/and so on) wouldn't lure because instinctively we feel it's morally wrong, detrimental to the victim and above all, pretty close to scamming someone on Sythe.

I think given this, and given the fact that I myself wouldn't trust someone who lures for money, ridding ourselves of the "luring community" that I fail to see is as big a part of Sythe as I guess it once was would be a bad thing at all.
