I've got a colorful forum-related history, dating back to a brief spell of RuneCMS, an entire history enough to fill a book on Sythe 06-now and anything you'd like to know about fagex. Full transparency, it's actually really interesting politics, that site. And a lot of drama. Oh god the drama. Worse than you've ever seen on sythe, in a very self-destructing way (hence why it's permanently gone for good [notice how www.fagex.net redirects to jagex.com])

I'm a college student majoring in computer science, I'm in the USAF reserves at the moment, waiting to graduate from ROTC and commission as a 2d Lt in the air force, I live in the Washington State USA, my father was best friends with Kurt Cobain his entire childhood and teenage years and even played in his garage band for a few years, etc and so forth.

Nah m8 you are completely twisting it. I bit my tongue, not lip, and there was no mention of dry lips. As a matter of fact I keep my lips very moist at all times.

Computer science <3 what classes you taking?

Why did you choose to take computer science? I'm stuck between that, or computer engineering.

    Also, does CS offer pentesting?

    Are you from HF?

What is a fagex and why should I want to know?

I don't understand the first line

I chose computer science because it's what's called a "technical degree", and those are highly coveted by the United States Air Force. If that's anywhere near a factor in your decision then it doesn't matter which you choose because engineering of ANY sort is also highly coveted.

They do hack simulations for 400-level students in network security classes. I'm two years away from anything like that

No, I've never been there, but oddly enough my username is registered there (I assume HF is "hackforum"?)

Fagex was a site created by Juansito, a former influential user of RuneCMS/Sythe.org. You could then call it a spinoff, because it was essentially the exact same thing. A runescape oriented black market, but it was more about the community than the market tbh. As to why you'd want to know about it, no reason

I thought you'd be cool, it was just a linux joke to 'install/download/obtain' software or files. Classic linux joke though, I have a t-shirt that says:
    '~cd /Life
    sudo apt-get laid/

Which directs you to the file 'life' and gets laid.

Well airforce is fun...But I'm Canadian, so that's a no go.

Sounds like an interesting site though, community boards are best when they're a community, not so much a market;)

Ubuntu is for kids, mainly debian, but I guess Ubuntu is based off of that.
Get ahead of the class, I know half a dozen languages and dual boot osx/FreeBSD and I haven't even finished my last year of high school. Learn it to enjoy it, don't learn it for a job;)

smh we got a die hard linux user in here, if you are in high school why not dedicate your time to learning and mastering programming languages instead of wasting time with linux? I've taken it last semester and it doesn't really help, just a bunch of bash scripting

linux is clearly the superior OS so learning the basics is always good which is most likely what an intro course would teach you (@ Tony)

Tony have you/plan on taking any assembly course? I have that this semester lol

They went to the same school in Aberdeen, WA. My dad played backup guitar in his garage band, the shack they used is still standing. We used to own three paintings made by Cobain bearing his thumbprint and signature that he made when he was 20-ish. They were stolen by my father's dad, and sold for a thousand dollars to some collector in California. My dad was featured in Cobain's tribute DVD set after his suicide called "Stairway to Heaven". I don't know much of what they did in their youth. Mostly vandalized, terrorized, and did some drugs here and there. My mother hated both of them for the longest time, but she found out she just hated Cobain, and liked my father when he wasn't around him. Hence me

I'm looking forward to linux, I love what people are able to do with their computers when they have WORLDS more control over it as compared to windows.
I don't know off the top of my head if that's on my academic plan. It sounds familiar, but I'd have to check

    wut.
    the 'basics' as in what?

I'm familiar with ASM, and C, C++, most scripting languages and a BIT of Java with a huge history in web dev. Bash isn't all that complicated if you learn to think about it the right way either.

I use Unix more then I sleep, I'd rather not use a computer in general then use Windows, I'm a huge supporter of opensource. #Diehard4dayz

You can control your Windows PC, it's just more complicated and a waste of time, Linux opens so much more doors in terms of security and simplicity. People look at terminal and give up, but if you even understand minimum of 20 commands you'd prefer Linux over Windows any day.

It's why I love OSX, has many of the available downlaods windows does, plus it's based off of unix as well.
