Notification when quoted

A forum i was staff on for a bit a few years ago had a similar function to this reserved for the staff (it was a gaming clan forum with strict no hacking rules, not a black market forum like sythe, people were usually banned for using hacks ingame or posting hack downloads on the site so i'm sure it was of more use there then having a quote notification system would be on sythe). If you put @ then the person's user name so @personsname (enter post here) it would send that person a private message notification letting them know that someone was either talking about them or was requesting help with something in the SL. This function was mainly used for admins and other staff when looking through reports or disputes (for example an admin looks at a dispute of a member that was banned by a moderator and that admin doesn't have the evidence that the moderator does on the user for whatever reason, so he would post @moderatorsname basically assigning him to the dispute or report, or when staff would search known forums where people post hack downloads for members of the clan to see if they were posting on threads requesting downloads on other sites, ect they would post in the SL so normal members couldn't see the thread and put @allstaff or @certainstaffname letting all staff know when they log in or only certain ones to watch the person in game closely and give there opinions on the matter. I don't know if having this on sythe would help much, unless there is a way for users to choose wether they want to be notified each time they are quoted or not be notified as i'm sure not everyone wants to get a PM everytime some one quotes them especially people who find themselves deleting PM's to create space frequently. Although for dice i'm sure this would help because people would get a notification when someone quotes them (usually meaning they accept your roll)

Posts like 'Thanks' are counted as spam too.

I like that idea because it's much easier to keep track on your posts, from my own experience I dont go through 'View all POSTS of user' to check if someone replied after me and if I need to reply to it.

 

I think this is a great idea, i have alot of threads and it would be nice to be told when someone has quoted you

Yeah and if someone really needs to get in touch with you they will call your cell, or better yet show up to your house but that isnt always practical is it?? This isnt about two people staying in touch anyways, its to notify when someone quotes you..

Support OP, this is featured on many other sites and works well for them. It would increase posting in all sections as many (myself included) often forget where we have posted and abandon conversations midswing due to forgetfullness. There is no real reason this shouldnt be implemented, makes this forum seem very dated not having MODERN features.

Heads up, you're not a mod. Quit reciting rules and regulation and let the staff do their job.

I was thinking more of that annoying pm notification that pops up on the top of your screen (in chrome atleast).
A system like Mohtasa showed would have my support, so thanks for that

 

Should have been approved long ago. I've seen about 3 threads speaking of this issue and they have all been denied. No one is going to subscribe to all threads you post on. It raises awareness and promotes activity, because of that in itself it should be approved or at least considered.

 

Ye this is needed so tired of 're looking for threads I replied too.

 

To be honest something like face books notifications system wouldn't be too bad, i don't like the suggested methods as it pushes everything left, but an icon next to messages and it opens a tab like the one shown above would be awesome... Can't see a problem with this, if it can be implemented.

 

Never in my life have I wanted to just type "I support" more than this.

Any system like this would be nice. Preferably doing @Darkest_Dream in a thread would notify me, but something based on quotes would be just fine as well. I know it feels a bit social media-esque (and I was a bit hesitant to support at first) but I feel like it would add activity to the forum as well as be a convenient feature to have.

 

Support. Would be ideal, the amount of times I've received PM's saying 'Why are you not replying?!' when I've been quoted is far too many. It'd be super handy.

This is such a cool feature, I don't understand why it's not implemented already.

 

I don't mind it being added, as long as I can toggle the feature instead of minimize it.

 

I like the idea it would be nice so you know when you're being talked to or about. Support.

 

I requested it as a suggestion but was denied. Mods and those who closed it told me to just subscribe to the thread. It would be quite VERY annoying to see that someone quoted you in a thread that you made a year ago.

no support.. as a fellow slickdealer.. i had enough of notifications..

one reason is that someone can quote you in an old thread and you would receive notification. it could be a graveyard post deep 300 pages that haven't been archived..

I support only if the threads I subscribed to, would that mean I want to receive notifications. If I don't want to receive any more notifications, I will unsubscribe. < Although its up to Sythe and the mods to decide whether this is something they want..


As for notifications suggestion, it should appear as what Slickdeals have. A pop up on your bottom right of your webpage of sythe. You click it and it directs you to the page you wish to receive notifications. If you refresh the page one time again, there will be no pop ups. ANYONE who is a SLICKDEAL'er will know what I'm talking about.

This would be a GREAT EXAMPLE... it should be applied to PM's and Quotes that you subscribe to. Click on Close all and all those notifications GO AWAY.

@Almond, there should be an option to configure whether you want notifications on or off. This would be a great addition to the site. It's annoying that I always respond late because I either forget about the thread or it's under other threads that are being bumped up to the top. Subscribing is an annoying feature that is unstable. I keep trying, it doesn't work out and has horrible UI.
